NICARAGUAN NIGHTS
It’s 4 am on a steamy Nicaraguan night.
The moonlight shines on a scorpion’s tail.
Poised to strike as my foot comes down so light,
making my way down a stony mountain trail.
Let’s begin with the hard truth to face:
A weed must be pulled, for a plant to grow in its place.
SLOWING DOWN
I think I see the path,
the problem in my way.
I’ve been running hard
and fast, when gently
slow saves the day.
Why be fast when
perfume’s slow?
THE MOUNDING AND THE MOLDING
Mounding through the mountains of your trials and tribulations,
spitting on the sidewalk about our tiny titillations.
Each as small as a floral patch of velvet four-by-four
that might as well be discarded on the floor.
We’ll never be of lesser clays, but may we every forty days,
be more, or less, in all the most interesting of ways.
THE PROMISE
What rope binds us to another allowing us to trust?
What ladder to the future offers rungs from which we thrust?
I accept you as you are and for what you deeply need
Attend to that for you, not driven by my greed
Maybe all that will be left when from this earth you’re gone
is the oaths you made, as gifts you gave, a promise to be true.
THE SNAKE HANDLER
Just leaves blowing across the yard,
but they carry the cry of death
smell it on the stench of my breath
It’s just a trick so pick a card
Cancer fights her to the death in bed
The real murder is here in my head
WHAT WILL YOU MURDER, WHAT WILL YOU MOLD?
Who holds the fort down
when we walk in the cold?
Who shines the light on
when we walk out, this bold?
Who runs the inn
that’s inviting us in?
WOOOOOOOOF!
