Berrybrook Art Exhibition

Berrybrook are delighted that the children's art work has been once again exhibited at Wolverhampton Art Gallery!

To celebrate, the school hosted a private viewing of the exhibition on the afternoon of Friday 17th May. Parents, children and members of the school community were invited and everyone had a great time and said how amazing the artwork was.

Here is what PHMAT Trustee - Damian Tarbuck said about the display:

The standard of art on display was amazing and it was great to see so many proud children with their parents. There are clearly some very talented pupils at Berrybrook primary school.

Happy 70th Birthday Sledmere!

Children and staff at Sledmere Primary School have had a wonderful few weeks celebrating the 70th anniversary of their school. Celebrations began on 5th July with children and staff coming into school dressed in their party clothes ready to enjoy class parties and eat lots of cake. On the same afternoon, the 70th Anniversary Summer Fayre took place; welcoming families and members of the school community to come together and help raise money for school. Staff hosted a range of stalls and activities which included penalty shoot outs, hook a duck, glitter tattoos, face paints and name the teddy. Children from across school also produced some beautiful artwork to include in the 70th anniversary artwork display. Throughout transition week all pupils also made contributions to the platinum tree display which will be showcased very soon!

The final anniversary celebration for Sledmere will be the upcoming development of their brand new school library. Sledmere have been without a library for a significant amount of time and this project has been made possible through the generous funding provided by PHMAT, as it aims to support us in developing a positive culture and love of reading at Sledmere. Happy 70th Birthday Sledmere!

Stanley Road Writing Sharing Afternoon

Stanley Road hosted their first writing sharing afternoon on Friday 28th June where parents were invited to attend and listen to the children’s latest pieces of writing produced in their English lessons. Reading and writing based activities also took place along with performances in the hall. Members of the local community, school ward councillors, religious leaders, staff from the Hive and the local police were also in attendance.

The children were so proud to share their writing and school really appreciated how families took the time to get involved in their children's learning. It was such a success, Stanley Road are hoping to run a writing sharing event each term next year.

Tilly The Tortoise

This term, Tilly the Tortoise from Forest Hills Primary School visited Early Years. He spent the day wandering around with Reception and Nursery children who learned how to care for a tortoise, what they eat and how to treat animals with respect and care. The children loved having Tilly in school and hope she visits again soon.

Mesty Croft Public Speaking Competition

Every year, Wednesbury Primary Schools are invited to attend a public speaking competition, hosted by the Wednesbury Learning Community at the Sandwell Council Chambers. Each school is invited to send a representative from Y3/4 and another from Y5/6. Representing Mesty Croft Primary this year was Penny from Y3 and Jaiyan from Y6 who each prepared a speech having been given the title 'What is Fair?'. Both pupils were fantastic ambassadors for their school and a special 'well done' to Penny who won the Y3/4 competition!

Here is Penny pictured with the Mayor of Sandwell presenting her with the trophy:

Greek Banquet for Perry Hall

Year 6 children at Perry Hall Primary have been busy perfecting their food technology skills with their very own Greek banquet. Pupils demonstrated skills of peeling and crushing garlic cloves (and learning the hard way the difference between a clove and a bulb after creating an initially very strong baba ganoush!), squeezing lemons, chopping and grating vegetables as well as learning how to handle and correctly cook minced meat - where dietary restrictions allowed. The children cooked up a storm to create their own tzatziki, baba ganoush, kofta and tabouleh and enjoyed sharing dishes with their parents.

Matilda The Musical at Tillington Manor

Well done to the amazing Year 5 and 6 children at Tillington who performed 'Matilda the musical'. They put on a fantastic performance, making all staff and families so proud!

Bikeability for Stanley Road and Berrybrook Children

This term, Berrybrook Reception children have enjoyed taking part in Bikeability sessions on Friday mornings. The children have learnt the skills to help them ride a bike, completing a series of balancing activities such as balancing on a balancing beam and balancing an egg on a spoon. After this, the children had a go at riding a balance bike and those that could, rode a peddle bike.

Year 5 and 6 children from Stanley Road Primary School also took part in Bikeability training. Cycling abilities were developed through sessions on the playground and on local roads, with children learning key skills about how to ride safely. Everyone who took part received a certificate, badge and handbook reminding them about the rules of the road, well done all!

Lots of Fun Trips for Bird's Bush Children

Bird's Bush have enjoyed many trips over the Summer term. Staff have worked hard to think of creative, enjoyable trips for the children linked to their PKC curriculum subjects and wider curriculum areas. Children have enjoyed visits to farms, fruit picking, battlefields, canal boat journeys and manor houses!

Perry Hall Sports Activity Day

Perry Hall celebrated mental and physical wellbeing with a sports activity day in May where all children had the opportunity to take part in a range of exciting sporting activities such as archery, penalty shoot outs, aerobics and taking turns on an inflatable assault course.

Thank you to everyone who took part and to Mr Boneham for helping to source and set up the activities. An extra special well done to Mrs Dodd who led over 15 aerobics sessions across the school day! Wow!
