Nukumea Newsletter Term two, Week three

Kia ora e te whānau and welcome to our second newsletter of Term 2.

Friday last week was a wonderful occasion to celebrate the official opening of our school buildings. The Minister of Education, Erica Stanford, planted a Kōwhai tree to mark the occasion and went on a tour of the school buildings. She was very impressed with our children's singing in the ceremony and also loved seeing that we are already well underway with Structured Literacy approaches which she has recently mandated for all schools to adopt by next year. Thank you so much to all of our parent community who were able to join us for this occasion. It was a very special day and we can now look forward to the growth of our community over the next couple of years.

Travelwise

The Travel Survey completed by many of you last term gave us great data to support our observations of how everyone is accessing school at the moment. Our bike and scooter racks have been very full as so many are enjoying riding to school. There are not quite enough numbers yet looking for Walking School buses but we will revisit this in September to check whether this need has grown.

Our carpark and PUDO (Pick Up Drop Off) is now in use and this is the primary access to school. Our students have all been taken for a tour, so they know how to use this area safely. There are areas for pedestrians, pick up/drop off zones and many car parks available for those who wish to park and walk in to meet their child by the classrooms.

The entrance to our Carpark and PUDO is at the end of Crozier Place.

This section is for anyone parking their cars to walk up into school.

Please note that this is a pick up and drop off zone area. Please only park here if you are staying with your car.

There is also a raised pedestrian crossing by the stairs for those walking across the road to access the car park.

The pedestrian access and exit on the left, car exit gate on the right. Students have been spoken to about how all bikes and scooters are to stay on the footpath in this area to stay safe.

On Wednesday 5th June at 9:15am we will be hosting a parent information session about Learning at Nukumea. This will be held in the staffroom and recorded for anyone who is unable to attend. We will be covering things such as:

  • How we use Hero to share progress and achievement
  • What does learning in literacy, numeracy and other curriculum areas look like
  • What can you expect when it comes to reporting

We look forward to seeing you then.

Save the date - more info to come, but we are excited to announce the first disco in our school hall is coming soon!

Have a wonderful (and warm) week everybody.
