Reflections upon a middle school experience by viola shephard

As the school year finishes up, it becomes time to reflect upon this past year. I have been at the middle school for nearly two years and have learned a lot. I’ve made a lot of new friends while at the middle school; some, becoming my closest friends.

There’s a lot of bonding which goes on during middle school, which means that you become a lot closer with your friends. Treetop Adventures was a great bonding experience, because you rely on people around you to make sure that you’re not making a mistake while you’re climbing. Decorating gingerbread houses was another one of my favorite moments. I had a lot of fun with it.

While asking others, I started remembering some other moments that will stick with me in the future. I loved winter adventure day; I learned how to ski during that. It was something new entirely, and though it was extremely scary. Although I did fall down many times, I had so much fun. There’s also the Spring Break song, when Mr. Rossiter sings about spring break on his guitar.

The Middle School has a lot of individual memorable events that I will never forget. As I leave for high school, the memorable events won’t be the special days. They won't be field trips. They won’t be the pizza lunches. They’ll be the little moments which you remember with your friends and others.

Some of the moments are academic, some athletic and some are with friends. Those moments and the preparation or spontaneity of them is what I’ll carry with me to high school. Another eighth grader said that one of the most memorable moments to them was whenever there were donuts out in the morning.

The important ideas which I have gained while I have been here are extremely important towards future growth. As I move on to high school, I will carry with me a few important pieces of knowledge which I have gained as I traversed through middle school. One piece of knowledge that I learned is that you have to put some trust in your teachers. They are here for you and you will have to rely on them throughout the year. Another piece of knowledge which I have learned is that you need to utilize your free time properly. Sometimes it’s good to just relax, but there are other moments when you need to get your work done. So, as we transition into our next year of school, I invite all of the current middle schoolers to think about what you want to do next year. We will all learn so much.
