Caring for Our Earth Nursery, summer term, week 4

Our imaginative work has been all about respecting and caring for nature. In our story, our island is still waiting for new plants to recover the damaged land. We have monitored our seeds carefully, caring for them by watering them and being gentle. However, just like Jasper from the story 'Jaspers Beanstalk' it can be very hard for us to wait for germination to happen.

'Jasper's Beanstalk', you can watch a video of the story with your child on YouTube.
Looking closely there are some tiny flecks of green on the surface of the soil.
Watering the seeds daily. I'm hoping that with the amount of love the children have given them they will appear soon.
The girls are convinced that they can see the shoots coming up.
'But why is it taking so long?!'
A group chat about what we can see. Imagine how much we will have to talk about once they start growing.
In the meantime we can water our established plants. Lots!

In literacy, we have been looking at Jack and the Beanstalk and learning how to read and write the sounds 'g', 'p', 'n', 'i', and 'o'. An extra special well done to those children (and parents!) who have been working on this at home too, this makes all the difference.

Our maths focus has been on saying what one more or one less than a number is. We've been enjoying lots of games on the interactive whiteboard to support this. You can try too, this game was a favourite: https://pbskids.org/curiousgeorge/busyday/bugs/. (Topmarks, bug catcher game).

The warmer weather has encouraged lots of learning and play outside. See the photos below for the range of physical and maths challenges we took part in.

Next week on Tuesday morning at 9am we have an 'Early Reading' workshop with Mrs Finlay, our Phonics lead. We would like to explain your role in helping your child learn to read, covering how to say the sounds and ideas for sharing stories together. We hope to see you there!
