The 2026 election cycle includes the Primary Election on June 2, 2026, followed by the City’s General Municipal Election and the Gubernatorial Election on November 3, 2026. The Office of the City Clerk has begun actively preparing for these upcoming elections. Los Angeles County to Host a Mobile Vote Center at Farmer's Market

  The County is bringing voting directly to the community with a Mobile/Flex Vote Center at the Farmers Market on May 27, 2026. As part of the Mobile Voting Program, this pop-up Vote Center offers the same secure and accessible voting experience as a traditional location—conveniently placed where residents already gather. By partnering with local community spaces, the program expands access and provides flexible, one-day voting opportunities for individuals who may face barriers to visiting standard Vote Centers. Stop by the Farmers Market and make your voice heard—voting has never been more accessible.

From Idea to Impact: Statewide Recognition for Civic Outreach

The City Clerk’s Office was recently recognized by the California Municipal Clerks Association with the Innovative Program of the Year award for the City’s creative and community-focused elections outreach efforts.   The recognition highlights Pico Rivera’s commitment to making civic engagement more welcoming, accessible, and engaging for residents through innovative public outreach initiatives, including the introduction of “Citrus Sam,” the City’s elections outreach mascot inspired by Pico Rivera’s rich citrus heritage.   This effort was made possible through the collaboration and creativity of many individuals across the organization. Special appreciation is extended to the Media & Communications Team for helping bring the initiative to life through thoughtful design, storytelling, and community engagement efforts.   The City Clerk’s Office also extends gratitude to City leadership, staff, and community partners whose continued support encourages innovative approaches to public service and civic education.   The Office remains committed to serving the community with transparency, creativity, and dedication while continuing to promote civic participation throughout Pico Rivera.

2026 SCAG Sustainability Award: Climate Leadership

The City of Pico Rivera is proud to announce that it has received the 2026 Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) Sustainability Award for Climate Leadership. These awards recognize cities with strong efforts to build cleaner and more resilient communities. This recognition is especially significant as SCAG represents 191 cities and 6 counties across Southern California, including Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, and Imperial counties, placing Pico Rivera among leading cities in the region.   The award highlights the City’s commitment to the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) and its work to improve community health and resilience. Through CAAP implementation, the City continues to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, support cleaner energy, and invest in programs that benefit residents.   Pico Rivera was recognized for early progress in putting its plan into action and stands as the sole recipient of the Climate Leadership category, reflecting its strong leadership in climate efforts.  

City of Pico Rivera Earns Clean California Community Designation for Sustainable Leadership

The City of Pico Rivera is proud to announce it has been designated a “Clean California Community” through the California Department of Transportation’s Clean California initiative. This recognition highlights the City’s leadership in advancing zero-litter practices and maintaining clean, vibrant public spaces, placing Pico Rivera among leading communities in the Gateway Cities region.   This designation reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to sustainability through coordinated efforts and community partners. Key initiatives include community cleanup events, expanded waste diversion programs, and public education efforts that promote environmental responsibility among residents.   To earn this recognition, the City successfully met multiple program criteria focused on litter reduction, community engagement, and environmental education. These efforts include youth involvement through the Youth Ambassador Program and citywide cleanup activities that enhance parks, streets, and neighborhoods.   As part of this achievement, Pico Rivera will receive official signage and statewide recognition through Clean California program materials. The City extends its appreciation to the City Council, residents, businesses, and partners whose collaboration continues to support a cleaner and more sustainable community.

Power Up with PRIME Power Choice

Summer is approaching, bringing hotter weather with its high electricity demands. Increased home energy use for lighting, cooling, and other activities can drive up utility costs. The PRIME Power Choice Program helps manage these seasonal spikes by using energy from solar panels and battery storage to keep costs affordable and reliable. Solar panels power homes by day and charge batteries for night use, avoiding peak rates. 2026 Sunada Recyling Monthly Electronic Waste Events

The Office of Sustainability is partnering with Sunada Recycling to host free, monthly electronic waste (e-waste) recycling events for Pico Rivera residents and local businesses. These drive-thru events provide a safe and convenient way to recycle unwanted electronics without leaving your vehicle.   Events will be held from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Pico Park, 9528 Beverly Blvd, Pico Rivera, CA 90660, on the following dates:

  • June 20, 2026
  • July 18, 2026
  • August 15, 2026
  • September 19, 2026
  • October 17, 2026
  • November 21, 2026
  • December 19, 2026

  Accepted items include computers, televisions, printers, phones, and other electronic devices. Properly recycling electronic waste helps keep hazardous materials out of landfills, protects the environment, and supports the City’s sustainability efforts.  

Composting 101 Workshop

On May 19, 2026, the Office of Sustainability and Grow2Zero hosted a Composting 101 Workshop at the Pico Rivera Community Garden. Community members learned how to make their own compost and learned about sustainable gardening practices. A total of 15 residents participated, each receiving a free kitchen compost pail, with two attendees winning a raffle for a garden compost bin.   Building on this momentum, the City invites the community to the next workshop focused on water-wise gardening. Join us on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at Rio Hondo Park (8421 San Luis Potosi, Pico Rivera, CA 90660).   Participants will learn water-wise practices that support a healthier garden at home. Early attendees will also receive free seed packets.

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations at Pico Rivera City Hall

The City of Pico Rivera invites the community to use the public electric vehicle (EV) charging ports located at the City Hall parking lot. Pico Rivera Women Bicycle Club and Walking Club

Join the Pico Rivera Women Bicycle Club and Walking Club to embrace a sustainable and healthy lifestyle while building community. Led by local resident Yvette Zea, these clubs encourage active lifestyles, active transportation, and strengthen connections across Pico Rivera.   Beyond promoting cycling and walking, the clubs support long-term sustainability goals, reduce emissions, and contribute to the City’s active transportation network. Community and Economic Development

Dutch Bros Coming Soon

  • Planning Division has received a Conditional Use Permit application for a new Dutch Bros location at 9001 Telegraph Road.  The coffee shop would replace the El Pedregal restaurant.
  • The project includes construction of a new 1,025 square-foot drive-through coffee shop featuring a walk-up service window.
  • The new development is expected to expand beverage and quick-service options for residents and visitors in the area.
  • The coffee shop is expected to open Winter 2027.

Lo’roko Pupuseria and Grill Restaurant

  • A new family-owned restaurant, Lo’roko Pupuseria and Grill, is set to open at 9345 Slauson Avenue by Spring 2026.
  • After building a strong following at their existing restaurant in Bellflower, the owners selected Pico Rivera as the next location to expand their growing family business.
  • Lo’roko Pupuseria and Grill will offer authentic Salvadorian cuisine, including traditional pupusas, grilled meats and tamales.

First Pre-Approved ADU Completed in Pico Rivera

  • The City of Pico Rivera is proud to announce the completion of the first Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) constructed under the City’s Pre-Approved ADU Program.
  • Through the efforts of the City’s Community and Economic Development Department, along with assistance from the City’s design team, Pico Rivera developed a modern and efficient ADU prototype tailored to meet the needs of local residents.
  • The pre-approved ADU design complies with current building, fire, energy, and zoning regulations.
  • The completion of the first pre-approved ADU demonstrates the success of the City’s program and its ability to provide residents with a more accessible and efficient pathway to create additional housing opportunities.
  • The program supports homeowners by:
  • Reducing design costs
  • Improving permit processing efficiency
  • Encouraging high-quality residential development throughout Pico Rivera

Pico Rivera Attends International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Conference

  • The City of Pico Rivera attended the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) conference, one of the nation’s largest retail and commercial real estate networking events focused on economic development, retail recruitment, and business attraction.
  • Highlighted Pico Rivera’s recognition as a finalist for the 2025 Most Business-Friendly City Award and promoted available commercial sites ready for development and business investment.
  • Represented the City of Pico Rivera in meetings with developers, retailers, and commercial brokers to promote investment opportunities within the City.
  • Met with Lewis Co., Richland Developers, and Hilton Connect regarding future development opportunities.
  • Met with Village Walk representatives regarding prospective new tenants for the center.

On April 30, 2026, the Pico Rivera City Council and City leadership hosted students from the Montebello Unified School District for Student Leadership Day. Students shadowed the City of Pico Rivera Executive Team for the day and held their own mock-city council meeting.

In February of 2024, the City of Pico Rivera was designated as a Purple Heart City. On May 23rd, 2026 a monument was unveiled at the Veterans Memorial Plaza serving as a tribute to our local heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
