Message from the Leadership Team
Dear Noadswood families,
We would like to start this week by flagging to all of our Key Stage Four families an important evening to which everyone has already been invited, designed to support our Year 10 and Year 11 students in their journey towards GCSEs on Wednesday 5th November.
This event will be held in person and is aimed at providing families with the necessary tools and strategies to navigate the GCSE pathway effectively. We understand that for many families, this process can seem new and, at times, a lot to stay on top of.
The evening will start with a welcome in our main school hall at 5.40 pm, followed by a session led by the trainer, Lorraine Lee. Lorraine’s session will focus on helping families gain key information on how the brain learns at this age and stage of life, and how to maximise the effectiveness of revision. She will explore how to plan revision and how to structure a study session, as well as how to create the best environment at home for young people in which they can both relax and focus their energy on work.
We are excited to benefit from her insights on how to help our students thrive both at home and in school. Following Lorraine’s session, you are then offered two additional sessions run by your children's teachers. It is worth noting that we encourage Year 11 families to choose different sessions than those they attended last year to ensure a diverse experience – don't put all your eggs in certain subjects’ baskets alone!
The schedule for the evening is as follows:
5.40 pm: Welcome in our main school hall
5.50 pm-6.30 pm: Lorraine Lee in our main school hall
6.40 pm-7.00 pm: Session 2 – Option 1
7.05 pm-7.25 pm: Session 3 – Option 2
All resources discussed during the event will be made available to families afterwards, so that you can revisit the strategies and insights shared at your convenience.
To help the event run smoothly, we will confirm attendance for individual families prior to the evening, so could you register your intention to come using the following link which will also allow you to choose your two sessions: https://forms.office.com/e/j8amsNLVqh
A couple of this week’s highlights, then: it was lovely to write my first little section of this year’s first Year 11 Student Newsletter, Prep 2 Perform! As I did so, I reflected on some of their key skills and qualities shown in Year 10 that will help see them through the demands of the year ahead.
It was also super to meet our new initial teacher trainees for a ‘getting to know each other’ chat, who are working with us in Art, History and Geography – I have two more to meet over in English and Maths next week. I am thankful to people with the professional courage and belief in youngsters to come into this game, and to all our staff who mentor and support them. They were genuinely enthusiastic and passionate, and I know your children will enjoy working with their fresh ideas and energies.
Looking ahead to next week, I am looking forward to my next round of assemblies with the students, and it will be a real joy to run them back through the highlights of the first half term of the year, amongst other important messaging, as well as to sing crowd-pleaser, ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ by Rick Astley with Y7. Will Mrs Welsh’s tutor group continue to storm the singing?
Thank you for your support, challenge and partnership – if you need us, please make use of ClassCharts or the email addresses here: Contact us | Noadswood school
Or drop a message to info@ - lots of you do and we are happy to direct messages if you are not sure who you need.
Best wishes for a good weekend,
Kathryn Marshall and the leadership team
Restart a Heart Day 2025 with The British Heart Foundation
Year 7 students had the chance to learn CPR and take part in World Restart a Heart Day with the British Heart Foundation. They all had a great day learning how to do CPR and what a Defib machine can do to help someone in need. There were lots of fantastic questions by the students that both Chloe and Lawrence from the BHF were impressed with. All students who took part will be issued a certificate.
Year 9 STEM visit to Williams F1
Year 9 students had an exciting opportunity to visit Atlassian Williams Racing for a STEM experience that brought science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to life. During the visit, they explored cutting-edge innovations in automotive engineering and gained insight into how these disciplines come together to design and build high-performance racing cars.
The students participated in interactive workshops, engaged with expert engineers, and learned about the importance of teamwork and problem-solving in a fast-paced, real-world environment.
I think it’s fair to say that driving the e-simulators were the highlight of the day as the students got to test out their skills on the racetracks such as Austin and Silverstone! This hands-on experience inspired many to consider future careers in STEM fields and showed them how technology can drive innovation and success. We would like to thank Miss Ebblewhite for this wonderful opportunity.
Modeshift
We have been working with Modeshift Stars for the last two years now, getting students involved in looking at ways we can travel to school sustainably as well as reducing the number of cars around the local roads for school drop off and pick-ups. Last year we saw the school go from Good (Bronze) to Very Good (Silver) with Modeshift for our Travel Plans and initiatives.
We are pleased to announce that Noadswood School has won the STARS Local Authority Secondary School Award for Hampshire! 🎉🎉🎉It was a pleasure to be a part of the awards ceremony and have Cllr Ben Webster with us along with Angela Manore and Neil Hicks from Modeshift. The students have worked hard promoting walking and cycling to school. We are now actively looking for some Year 8 students to join the team and increase the work we are doing to make the roads around the school a safer place. If your child would like to be part of the team, please email mwyse@noadswood.hants.sch.uk
The current Year 9 ATA’s were invited to have Hot Chocolate with Mrs M Wyse to celebrate their success.
Coffee and Cake morning for Grandparents and Carers
This event is back for its second year. We had over 50 grandparents join us for a lovely morning of coffee, cakes and bingo whilst catching up with people they have not seen for a while. It was such a lovely event, we would like to invite you back. We will be offering two different times this year so that we can fit you all in and not turn anyone away. If you are a carer of a child at our school, or would like your child’s grandparent to attend, please sign up through Arbor in the ‘Shop’ area. The event will be held on Wednesday 19th November 2025 from 9.15am – 10.45am or 11.30am – 1pm; you can choose which time suits you. A Letter regarding this event will be sent out soon, but you can book start to book through Arbor.
We will be asking students to bake cakes to bring in on the day (no fresh cream or nuts) and will aim to sell some at break and lunchtime to help raise funds for the Outdoor Library that the Student Voice team are working on.

Christmas Themed events
Tickets are now on sale for the Christmas Themed Craft Fayre and Wreath Making session through Arbor in the Shop area or events@noadswood.hants.sch.uk
Noadswood Reads
It has been great to see the Noadswood Reads, Tutor Programme underway this week. It has been fantastic to hear students discussing the books and wonderful to see so many students walking away from their tutor time with a well-done token, The Noadswood Book Buck to celebrate their participation. The programme is in place as part of our commitment to literacy and the significance that reading has on the academic and emotional development of our students. If you have any concerns about your child’s reading progress and believe they could benefit from additional support, please contact Miss Walker at ewalker@noadswood.hants.sch.uk.
Prom Donations
The school is seeking donations of gently used prom dresses, suits, and other items of formal attire. These contributions will support our Year 11 students in preparing for their prom, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to participate fully in this important occasion.
We welcome donations in all sizes and styles. Items may be delivered to the school office during school hours.
Your generosity will help us create a memorable and inclusive experience for all of our Year 11 students.
