Late Surge Lifts Tritons to Win Over Embry-Riddle
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After a back-and-forth game, the Eckerd men's basketball team used a late 14-4 run and a critical defensive stop on the last play to seal a 76-73 victory over Embry-Riddle on Wednesday night at the McArthur Center.
Embry-Riddle jumped out to a five-point lead (12-7) nearing the 12 minute media timeout. Eckerd rallied with six consecutive points to take a one-point edge. The Tritons rolled off eight straight points late in the frame for an 11-point favor before entering halftime up 41-34
The Eagles opened the second half with a 7-0 run to even the score. They went on another seven-point run to take a six-point edge at the 13-minute mark. ERAU went up by seven at the seven-minute mark, but the Tritons followed with a 14-4 run to take a four-point advantage with 4:32 left. ERAU responded to take a one-possession lead, but back-to-back baskets by Carr Thiam gave the Tritons a 74-73 favor. The Eagles had a chance to take the lead with six seconds left, but George Kimble came up with a steal at the top of the key to seal the Tritons' win.
