Kia ora e te whānau, this term seems to be rocketing by and we are already half way through Week 3! Our new students have all settled in and I have been blown away with how engaged and focused our learners have been while walking through the classrooms over this past week. We regularly have visitors to the school and as we walk through the environment, they all mention the manners of our students and how engrossed everyone is in their learning.

PUDO - Pick Up Drop Off Zone
A reminder for everyone that the PUDO (Pick Up Drop Off) lane is for exactly that. We are blessed to have a large number of carparks for parents to park in and walk up to meet their children. The lane that drives up around the carpark to the foot of the stairs is for people to pull in, drop off/pick up their children and then drive out the gate. As the weather gets worse, this area will become even more valuable for getting children to and from school dry and safe. Please help us keep this area safe by only using those parks for quick pick ups and drop offs.
Winter Uniform
As we enter the colder and wetter months of the year, we are happy to tell you that our uniform supplier now has school jackets in stock. Please ensure your child has either a school jumper or jacket to keep them warm during winter. Non-uniform raincoats are allowed for on the way to school but must be taken off once class begins.
Also a reminder that the bottom half of the uniform is anything navy. Pants and skorts are available through the uniform shop, but you are welcome to wear any leggings, track pants, shorts etc that your child is comfortable in as long as they are navy.
Spare Clothes
The wetter days are having an impact on our chances to play outside. When it rains at morning tea and lunch, we have inside supervision for the children. However, sometimes it has been raining and then clears up allowing everyone to get outside for some fresh air.
At these times, the wet playground, slides etc. can sometimes be too hard to resist and we have had some very wet children at the end of the breaks. Can we please ask (particularly for our younger students) that they have some spare pants and underwear in their bags for if the call of the wet slide has been too much for them to deny.
Pink Shirt Day
We’re excited to be celebrating Pink Shirt Day this Friday at Nukumea School! This special day is all about showing kindness, inclusion, and respect. We encourage all our tamariki to wear pink or red shirts to show their support on Friday 16th May. We are a cashless school, so no donation is needed but if you wish to donate to the cause please do so on the Pink Shirt Day NZ Website.
At Nukumea, this aligns closely with our school value of Manaakitanga. Pink Shirt Day gives us a powerful opportunity to teach our students about inclusion and how to be upstanders, not bystanders. Let’s stand together to spread aroha and kindness! Get those pink outfits ready to stand together!
