Here you will find all the volunteering opportunities currently listed with our programme. Many different activities and roles are available throughout the year with a range of commitments, from short term, one-off projects to more long-term, regular opportunities. Make sure you are signed into ICity as most of the roles are accessed through our portal system.

Helpline & Drop-in Volunteer

This is an excellent opportunity for students seeking hands-on experience in domestic abuse support, safeguarding, crisis response, and frontline service delivery.

Evening Social Activities Volunteer

We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers for our busy and chatty evening social groups in Weoley Castle.

Listening Volunteer

As a listening volunteer, you will have the opportunity to make a profound impact on the lives of those struggling with emotional distress, loneliness, or suicidal thoughts.

As a Childline volunteer you'll be there for young people when they feel they have no one else to turn to, by giving a regular shift of up to 4 hours each week at our Birmingham.

Volunteer Dresser/ Stylist

Smart Works Birmingham is one of 8 centres UK wide and has supported over 2600 women into employment since August 2016. We provide free interview clothing and training for women with a confirmed job interview coming up.

Tuesday 13th January-Birmingham Museum Collection Centre

Join the Collections team at the Museum Collection Centre to get hands-on with authentic museum artefacts. Find out about collection management databases and object handling through on-site audit activities as part of the Dynamic Collections Programme!

Thursday 15th January- Tree Planting

Join your BCU Volunteering team for a day of giving back to the planet! On our Tree Planting Day with Birmingham Tree People, you'll have the chance to roll up your sleeves, dig in the dirt, and help plant trees that will grow for years to come.

Wednesday 21st January- Bethel Healing Network Baby Bank

Come and spend a few hours helping to sort and process baby items for the Bethel Healing Network Baby Bank, ready to go out to people in need in the local community!

Tuesday 10th February- Student Volunteering Week 2026: Canal Clean Up

Come along and lend a hand to look after the canal space next to our campus. BCU Volunteering will be helping with a litter pick, dredging the canal and cutting back vegetation. This is a great way to have fun and meet new people, all while looking after the local environment!

Wednesday 11th February- Student Volunteering Week 2026: FareShare Volunteering Day

We will be helping to tackle food waste and help to process food donations ready to go out to people in need in the local area!

Wednesday 11th February- Student Volunteering Week- Micro-volunteering with Birmingham Museums Trust

As part of Student Volunteering Week 2026, we will be helping to transcribe interviews from the Birmingham Museum Trust's archives, capturing the memories and experience of people living across Birmingham.

Thursday 12th February- Student Volunteering Week 2026: Birmingham Museum Collection Centre

As part of Student Volunteering Week 2026, join the Collections team at the Museum Collection Centre to get hands-on with cataloguing and auditing authentic museum artefacts.

Friday 13th February- Student Volunteering Week 2026: Community Environmental Trust

It's Student Volunteering Week 2026! Spend a few hours helping the Community Environmental Trust to make bird boxes and make all the different to the local wildlife.
