Highlights over the Year by Eli Gertsberg, James Tao, and Alex Liu

Highlights over the Year

Over the school year, there have been many moments worth highlighting. Here, we will go over the achievements and heartwarming moments. The year had its ups and downs, but we wanted to end the year positively with moments worth remembering. Here is a collection that me (James Tao), Eli Gertsberg, and Alex Liu have picked as the best times yet.

Boda Borg:

At the end of the first week, the whole of 7th grade was up and about. Everyone was excited for the first field trip of the year. The trip to Boda Borg was filled with fun activities located in small rooms, ranging from athletic challenges to intellectual exercises. We got stamps for finishing the puzzles presented in the room, and got to retry if we failed. For lunch, the 7th graders got pizza, (which some people(me) missed) and juice boxes.

Pep Rally:

During the pep rally, the whole school gathered together to celebrate the spirit of BB&N. We saw Bucky, the knight, race other mascots of contending schools, and he ends up beating all of them. Confetti was blown, metallic pom pom’s given to each student, and it was an enjoyable time to celebrate BB&N.

Gingerbread Houses:

After Winter Break we had been presented a challenge to build the best gingerbread house to our ability within one homeroom. We have seen many *creative* builds including ones of great design and ones that resemble works of modern art. After the houses were finished, the 8th grade voted for the best houses, and the choices were interesting. This is a moment to remember since building the houses required a lot of team cooperation and bonding with the rest of your advisory.

Author Visit:

On the day of the long-awaited author visit; Ariel Aberg-Riger presented her history book: America Redux. Filled with interactive activities, students used collage papers and photos from the natural gallery to create original art. Ariel showed students how she created the book and what had inspired her in the first place. Overall, it was a good learning experience and an inspiring opportunity to improve on your writing.

Community Service:

As teachers led students to the nearby organization Heading Home, the buses were filled with excitement. For the whole day, students cooked, made snack bags, tidied up playgrounds, and decorated the building for the residents at Heading Home. Homerooms worked as a team to accomplish tasks on a day filled with fun and charity.

Winter Adventure Day:

During Winter Adventure Day, we drove for two and a half hours to Waterville Valley Resort in New Hampshire to have fun and unwind on the snowy mountain. During our time there, I (James Tao) did my first black diamond trail, and my group had a lot of fun. It was nice to go back out into the bright white snow, and I wish we could have had another Winter Adventure Day during the semester(maybe in February, but it's too late now).

Spring Break Song:

“Spring Break! We’re going off to Spring Break!” were the lyrics to the iconic Spring Break song that was sung by Mr. Rossiter on the day before the break began. This was a fun song that put everyone in the mood to go on a vacation, after three long and hard months of school. If only we would have a Summer break song to cap it off…

Solar Eclipse:

The Solar Eclipse was a very special moment that the whole school got to cherish together during sports on April 8. We were provided with special glasses so that we wouldn’t hurt our eyes, and it was a cool experience! It was interesting to see how the moon covered the sun so much, yet it was still so bright, almost as if it was only 7:00 in the morning. Unfortunately, though, It only lasted a few minutes, which was a little underwhelming. However, the last eclipse we will see for 20 years, as the next time that we will see a solar eclipse in the United States mainland is in 2044.

Homeroom Olympics:

Since the beginning of the school year, all of the homerooms have been competing for the prestigious title of being the homeroom champion. These homerooms have been doing trivia, questing on treasure hunts, skittle-catching, paper airplane throwing, egg dropping, and participating in spelling bees. So far, the games are undecided, but the final event is coming up for both grades. Who do you think will win the Olympics?

Spark Issues:

As we, the authors of this article, are all part of the Spark, this recap might be a little bit biased. On the other hand, if you just look at the most recent Spark issue from April; you can find amazing artwork, meaningful articles, and funny jokes. The Spark has produced four issues so far, the Fall issue, the Winter issue, the Spring Issue, and the one that you are reading right now! On behalf of the whole Spark team, I highly recommend that you go check them all out. Hey, you might even find things that you completely forgot about!
