JAN. 16, 2024 – On the first day of spring classes, students gathered at noon in cold and snowy weather for a “There is No Back To School in Gaza” walkout. Around 200 students surrounded the Women’s Table on Cross Campus during the protest.

FEB. 9, 2024 – About 60 students, faculty and New Haven residents joined an hour-long vigil for Israeli hostages still held in Gaza. The demonstration featured a Shabbat table set for each of the hostages as well as speeches and readings from students. See the full story with photos here.

MARCH 26, 2024 – The Peabody Museum of Natural History reopened after a four-year renovation totaling more than $160 million. The renovations focused on increasing learning and exhibition spaces, making the Peabody more accessible to visitors from Yale, New Haven and around the world.

MARCH 17, 2024 – Yale stunned Brown with a buzzer-beating floater to win Ivy Madness, and then followed it up with an upset win over the No. 4 Auburn Tigers in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

APRIL 8, 2024 – Hundreds gathered at various campus locations, including on Cross Campus and at the Leitner Family Observatory and Planetarium, for the total eclipse. Read the full story with photos here.

APRIL 19, 2024 – More than 400 people gathered on Beinecke Plaza to oppose Yale’s investments in military weapons manufacturers. Protesters set up tents on the Plaza and remained there overnight, beginning an encampment that would last three nights.

APRIL 22, 2024 – Yale police arrested 47 pro-Palestine student protesters. Police detained protesters who refused to vacate the Plaza and had instead locked arms and circled around the flagpole, using zip ties to lead them through the College Street entrance of the Schwarzman Center onto Yale Shuttle buses. APRIL 22, 2024 – After the morning arrests, hundreds of protesters moved to blockade the intersection of Grove and College Streets.

APRIL 30, 2024 – A second pro-Palestine encampment was set up on Sunday, April 30, following a 1,000-person march through downtown New Haven. Around 250 protesters set up 40 tents on Cross Campus. On Tuesday morning, Yale and New Haven officers cleared the encampment on Cross Campus. No arrests were made, and all protesters left the encampment when asked. See the day in photos here.

MAY 29, 2024 – Maurie McInnis GRD ’90 GRD ’96 was named Yale’s 24th president on May 29, 2024, concluding a nine-month presidential search. McInnis began her tenure on July 1, becoming Yale’s first non-interim female president.

SEPT. 12, 2024 – Employees of the Omni hotel and organizers with UNITE HERE Local 217, the union that represents them, began picketing in the early morning after voting to approve a work stoppage in August. Two weeks after this four-day strike, UNITE HERE Local 217 announced that they had settled a contract with the Omni New Haven Hotel.

OCT. 28, 2024 – Police arrested seven individuals on the New Haven Green and cleared tents at a homeless encampment erected in a protest against the city’s homeless encampment sweeps and homelessness policies. See the arrests in photos.

OCT. 31, 2024 – Seven advocates charged for putting up and refusing to take down tents at an encampment protesting New Haven’s homelessness policies appeared in court. U-ACT advocates and a crowd of Yale students — including 41 students arrested in last spring’s pro-Palestinian protests who were also scheduled to appear in court that day — sang and chanted in support of housing policy reform and an end to police “sweeps” of homeless people from public places.

OCT. 31, 2024 – Pro-Palestinian students charged with criminal trespassing for last spring’s encampment appeared in court, most agreeing to pay $90 fines for a simple trespassing infraction in exchange for their misdemeanor charges being dropped. Approximately 70 people, including arrested students and fellow activists, rallied on the courthouse steps before the appearance in the New Haven Superior Court.

OCT. 31, 2024 – At midnight, nearly 2,000 students packed Woolsey Hall dressed in costume to experience a classic Yale tradition, the Yale Symphony Orchestra’s annual Halloween Show. See the concert in photos.

NOV. 23, 2024 – Yale and Harvard faced off in the 140th iteration of The Game. The Bulldogs pulled off a major upset, defeating the heavily favored Crimson with a final score of 34-29. The victory is Yale's third consecutive against Harvard. See the full photo essay here.
