This week The Fine Art class have taken over the recommendations. Full of Animation and bright colours. Does it reflect them as individuals or as a group. Some local interest which elements of the Stop Motion films made in Manchester as Cosgrove Hall. Artists taking risks and using physics and gravity to make his huge work. The outcomes full of energy. The animes explore what the world could be, all beautifully animated and a tour de force of world building. We hope you enjoy the selection and support the guys by sharing what you enjoyed with them.

FILM: ISLES OF DOGS

ANNALISE RECOMMENDS....

Isle of dogs is an adventure/comedy stop motion animated film directed by Wes Anderson that released in 2018. It follows the story of a boy trying to find his lost dog after a canine flu outbreak in the City of Megasaki, Japan led to the exile of all dogs.

I recommend this film as although it is described as an adventure/comedy it also carries some quite heavy themes and has quite a few touching moments

YOU CAN WATCH ISLE OF DOGS ON DISNEY+ HERE!

Lots of cool "making of" stuff online too..... Some of it was made in Manchester too.

ANIME: SUMMERTIME RENDER

Cami recommends.....

This anime tells the story of Shinpei, who investigates the mysterious death of his best friend Ushio. Along the way, he uncovers the deep secrets of their island and must risk his life to save Ushio and the people of their hometown from a devastating disaster. With a rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars, this anime is definitely worth watching.

You can watch it in Disney plus if you are interested in the anime, but personally I really recommend it, as it not solely an anime but keep on surprising you by building up to the next reveal that changes the dynamic in some unexpected way while keeping the suspense up.

ARTIST: CALLEN SCHAUBS

Jamie recommends....

I would recommend Callen Schaubs work that he puts the processes of him making on his social medias as they are both relaxing and satisfying to watch. Although the process looks messy and annoying to do, the final result always looks amazing.

You may like the colour contrasts that he does on some of his pieces between the background and the foreground like when he sometimes does a really hard black background but then uses a lot of really bright colours in the foreground. His colourful paint spirals are truly mesmerising to watch.

FILM: SPIRITED AWAY

Scarlett recommends....

Spirited Away is an Oscar-winning movie produced by director and animator Hayao Miyazaki, then released by the Japanese animation studio, Studio Ghibli. The main character Chihiro experiences of themes of identity, selflessness, and facing fears when challenges arise.

The captivating storytelling and animation of this film appeals to audiences young and old, despite whoever it was intended to be for. Each frame of this film is hand-drawn with immense detail, meaning the production can take up to years to finish. Since it takes so long for Studio Ghibli to produce their films, it's hard not to appreciate the amount of effort and time put in!

If this movie isn't for you, Studio Ghibli have made many more films such as Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo, and Mary and the Witch's Flower.

You can find this film on Netflix so check it out!

STOP MOTION: CORALINE

Tahzeeb recommends...

This movie is a stop motion, horror film which is based on a novel by Neil Gaiman. This story follows a young girl who moves into a new city and is met with a door that leads her to a world that she thinks is better. People should watch this as it has an art style which I think isn’t appreciated enough, the amount of time and effort that it takes to create these movies is huge which is why I would recommend this film. The cliff-hanger in this movie also makes you think about the film after you’ve watched it and what actually happened.

ANIMATED SHOW: JUJUTSU KAISEN

David recommends......

High-spirited high-schooler Yuji Itadori has tragically incarnated the ever-powerful King of Curses back into the world of the living after a gamble of his own life to save his dear friends. Pushed deep into the secretive world of Jujutsu sorcery, Yuji will have to battle the odds against Jujutsu society itself and the ever-looming threat of curses that seek to overtake humanity in its step; will he and his odd cast of friends survive?

Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen's story and wild action will throw you into a world in overwhelming suspense and thrill, taking you for a wild ride with close calls at every step.

The world of JJK captivated with its cascading plot and beautifully choreographed animation, continuing to collect anguish of both readers and characters, truly cursed by the world around them.
