Celebrate the Holidays

Dec. 6-8

Twinkling lights and decorations are popping up all over. Now is the time to plan for the St. James Service Club’s (SJSC's) annual Celebrate the Holidays event. Tickets will be on sale (cash and check only) on the following: Monday (11/13), 3:00 — 6:00 PM, 3250 Moss Hammock Wynd; and Wednesday (11/15), 11:00 AM — 1:00 PM, 4218 Skeffington Ct. You can also purchase online anytime. This year’s festivities include a Brunswick Big Band Concert, tree lighting, performance art by Stuart Pike at the St. James Community Center on Wednesday (12/6) and a gourmet appetizer reception at the Members Club on Thursday (12/7). The regular festival runs from Thursday (12/7) through Friday (12/8) and includes the traditional fantastic displays, bakery goods and raffles that are so popular with this event. St. James Photo Show

The St James Photo Club will present a show of their member’s collection of photographic talent on Thursday (11/16) from Noon — 4:00 PM at the St. James Community Center. Please take a few minutes to stop by and view the creations of your friends and neighbors. Refreshments and cheese will be provided to enhance the experience. This is an opportunity to view local works and purchase (cash or check) a remembrance of St. James photographs for your home or as a gift. Proceeds from your purchase go to Brunswick Partnership for Housing, which assists displaced and homeless families. Submitted by Dennis Falkenstein.

Holiday Show & Dinner

dec. 1 & 2

Tickets are still available for the Thalian Association Holiday Show and Dinner on Friday (12/1) and Saturday (12/2) at the Members Club. The event is sponsored by the St. James Plantation POA Activities Committee. Enjoy a cash bar from 5:30 - 6:30 PM. The dining room will open at 6:30 PM and the show starts following dinner. The talented Thalian performers will feature a mix of holiday and favorite show tunes. Your choice of 2 dinner entrees must be decided at ticket purchasing: chicken Marsala or roasted salmon. Tickets are $60.00 per person (limit 4) and payable only by check. Seating is assigned, so you must provide the name(s) of those you want to be seated with at ticket purchase. To purchase tickets, contact Cathy Regan, (910) 508-9266.

St. James NEST Speaker Series

St. James NEST’s third speaker series, "Take All the Right Moves for Health and Safety," focuses on ways to keep yourself healthy and safe to ensure that you are able to enjoy this chapter of your life to the very fullest. The second program in the series is "Understanding an Alzheimer’s Diagnosis" and will be held on Tuesday (11/28) from 3:00 — 4:30 PM at the St. James Community Center. The diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or dementia is life-changing and leads to many questions. Hear from other people and families who have been through an Alzheimer’s diagnosis and learn more about what you need to know, what you need to plan for and what you can do as you and your family navigate this new chapter. The program is FREE to all St. James residents but due to limited seating capacities, registration is strongly suggested. For more information and to register, click here. St. James NEST submission.

Sea Notes Christmas Concert

Sea Notes Choral Society kicks off its upcoming 50th anniversary with an extra special Christmas concert, "A Quartet for Christmas," at 3:00 PM on Saturday (12/2) and Sunday (12/3). The concerts will be held at Odell Williamson Auditorium on the campus of Brunswick Community College. All 4 of our talented directors — Bob Marks, Dianne Hoffman, Marie Pierre Fletcher and Cindy Sellers — will direct a portion of the concert. Each director has chosen a beautiful set of Christmas music sure to put you in the Christmas spirit. The principal accompanist is the very talented Margaret Smicklas. Concerts are always FREE but tickets are required for Christmas concerts to ensure a seat. Operation Green Light

In advance of the upcoming Veterans Day holiday, the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners invites residents and businesses to participate in Operation Green Light, a national initiative to support military veterans and raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by many veterans and their families. In honor of the initiative, Brunswick County will illuminate the Judge Ola M. Lewis Brunswick County Courthouse and the Charters of Freedom settings with green lights now through Sunday (11/12) from dusk to dawn. The courthouse and settings are at 310 Government Center Dr. NE in Bolivia. The Board of Commissioners also adopted a resolution last month supporting Operation Green Light. Click here to learn more. Beach-Themed Holiday Event

"HoliDAY" at the Museum of Coastal Carolina is a beach-themed holiday celebration for the whole family on Friday, (11/24) from 10:00 AM — 4:00 PM. Visitors can complete beach-themed crafts and play with snow at the beach through fun science activities. Shiver me timbers! The museum has been warned that White Beard the Pirate Claus will dock his ship, invade HoliDAY, and share pirate booty with all children. HoliDAY visitors can also stroll through the museum’s enchanting 4th Annual Festival of Trees at a leisurely pace, admire trees artfully decorated by area businesses and non-profits, and engage in friendly competition by voting for and bidding on your favorite trees.
