ARGENTINA FLY FISHING

Trout Lines operates between Bariloche and San Martín de los Andes, two of Northern Patagonia’s most celebrated fly-fishing hubs. This stretch of Argentina’s Lake District offers remarkable access to wild trout water, from clear freestone rivers and spring creeks to glacial lakes, lake outlets, and remote runs beneath the Andes. Here, the fishing is defined by variety. Anglers can target wild rainbow, brown, and brook trout across a changing landscape of moving water, stillwater, and rugged Patagonian terrain. A day might mean casting dry flies on a technical river, swinging streamers through deeper currents, or exploring lake edges where wind, light, and structure shape the challenge. Bariloche provides access to the iconic waters around Nahuel Huapi National Park, while San Martín de los Andes opens the door to the fisheries surrounding Lanín National Park and the famed Seven Lakes corridor. Between the two, the Lake District delivers the kind of fly fishing that makes Patagonia legendary: beautiful water, strong trout, big landscapes, and days built around exploration.

LEGENDARY RIVERS, LEGENDARY GUIDES: WELCOME TO BARILOCHE

Meet Mara

Upon arrival you will be greeted by your in-field trip manager, Mara. A native to the area, the only thing Mara is more passionate about than fly fishing is hospitality and showing off her hometown to the world.

Mara will drive you to your cabin and make sure you have everything you need. You will also have her contact information at all times-- she is there to make sure your trip goes great!

YOUR CABIN IN PARADISE

You're going to love those sunsets over Lago Nahuel Huapi. Especially in a Jacuzzi.

Prior to your arrival we will have the cabin pre-stocked with your favorite food items and other requests.

Fairy Tale Cabin With Lake Access

After you are settled in, we recommend visiting the nearby famous Patagonia Brewery for a local craft beer and some of the best views around.

Great Beers With Better Views

After a few beers, head back to your cabin for what will be one of the highlights of your trip- an authentic Argentine Asado experience fully prepared by a local Asador! Music, cocktails, incredible steak, and warm service will greet you.

DINNER: ARGENTINE ASADO EXPERIENCE & FISHING STRATEGY SESSION

... Prepared by a local Asador! Music, cocktails, incredible steak, and warm service will greet you. Your fishing guides will also stop by to talk strategy and provide you with the plan of attack for your next few days of fishing.

To walk, to wade, or to float: that is the question. How about all three? Different waters call for different approaches- luckily we know the best approach & have the best gear for all waters, all fish, and all conditions.

MEET YOUR GUIDES

INTRODUCING:

i n a k i ____l a r r e a

Our top guide, Iñaki has been guiding at some of Patagonia's finest river ranches and estancias for many years, earning a reputation throughout the continent for his fishing ability & legendary hospitality.

Fun fact: Mr. Larrea is the most-followed Argentine fly fisherman on Instagram, coming in just shy of 100k followers.

e z e Q U I E L___ f a c c i o

Ezequiel is the heart and soul of our operation. He makes sure we are at your cabin at sun up and that our boat has you on the best water possible each and every day. In our opinion, he is also the best rowing & net man in the game today.

m a r a___ m i n i c h

If Ezequiel is the heart & soul of the operation, then Mara is the glue. Mara takes the time to listen to our guests and be there for them at every step of the way. She is there to be your city guide, fishing partner, and above all, friend.

Fun fact about Mara: she would never say it, but Mara may very well be the best angler out of any of us.

patagonia's best guides are at your service

DAY FOUR: LET'S FISH!

Full Day on the Upper Limay River

The Upper Limay River: slow enough to take in Patagonia’s wide-open beauty, and fast enough to remind you that trout do not wait for anyone. You will float through clear blue water, open steppe, volcanic cliffs, and distant Andean views while casting into the kind of water that makes every bend feel promising. Long seams, quiet banks, deep runs, and plenty of places where there seem to be 'world-class trout conventions' going on beneath the surface.

Whether casting streamers toward the banks or presenting dry flies along subtle current lines, the Upper Limay delivers a memorable mix of scenery, technique, and just enough suspense to keep everyone humble.

Barbecue Alongside The River?

YOU BETCHA.

DAY 5: FULL DAY FISHING RIO MANSO

Today you will float the Río Manso, world-renowned for its pristine, protected wilderness setting in the Nahuel Huapi National Park. One of northern Patagonia’s most scenic and inviting trout rivers, you will drift through clear water, mountain views, forested banks, riffles, glides, and cutbanks while casting for trophy Browns & Rainbows.

DAY 6: HALF LAKE FISHING, HALF LAKE CRUISE

Today you will spend the day on Nahuel Huapi, one of Patagonia’s most magnificent and breathtaking lakes. The first half of the day will be focused on lake fishing with your Trout Lines guides, casting across clear blue water framed by mountains, forests, and wide-open Patagonian sky.

After fishing, the pace shifts from casting to cruising as you explore the lake’s incredible scenery from the boat. You will take in panoramic views, quiet bays, dramatic shoreline, and the kind of mountain backdrop that makes it very easy to forget about cell service — and very hard to care.

Lunch and snacks will be provided throughout the day, so you can simply relax, enjoy the lake, and take in the views.

DAY 7: TRANSFER TO SAN MARTIN & SCENIC SEVEN LAKES TOUR

We hope you like beautiful alpine lakes and emerald-blue water.

Today you will journey north through Argentina’s Lake District toward San Martín de los Andes, a storybook mountain town tucked between forests, lakes, and the Andes. Along the way, the road winds past deep blue water, quiet valleys, wooded hillsides, and postcard-worthy views that make the transfer feel like its own beautiful chapter of the trip.

WELCOME TO SAN MARTIN DE LOS ANDES

Check-in at stay #2: Rotui Hotel

Rotui Hotel has large residences that feature full kitchens and living rooms

DAY 8: FULL DAY FISHING THE CHIMEHUIN & Fly Tying Night

A day on the river that Mel Krieger & Joe Brooks started it all on.

Today you will fish the Chimehuín River, one of the most historic and celebrated waters in Argentine fly fishing. Long considered a birthplace of Patagonia’s trout-fishing culture, it is a special place. As always, lunch will be served on the river, giving you time to relax, take in the scenery, and enjoy the rhythm of a true Patagonian fishing day.

After fishing, you will be returned to your hotel and have the evening free to explore San Martín de los Andes’ vibrant downtown, where local restaurants, cafés, shops, and mountain-town charm make for a perfect night out.

make new friends, tie new flies

After a full day on the Chimehuin, head back to the hotel to refresh before meeting local fly tyers at a local cerveceria to enjoy a night of tying patterns you will use tomorrow on your last day fishing on the Upper Malleo.

Beyond tying flies, you will share stories, compare tying techniques, and bond with new friends over the sport and art we love.

DAY 9: FULL DAY FISHING THE upper RIO MALLEO

A river where the dry fly is still king.

Today you will fish the Malleo River, often regarded as one of the finest dry-fly rivers in the world for sight fishing and a true icon of Argentine Patagonia. With clear water, technical currents, willow-lined banks, and views of Lanín Volcano, the Malleo offers a setting that is as beautiful as it is demanding.

Here is your chance to bring together everything you have practiced in Patagonia: presentation, accuracy, patience, reading water, and trusting the drift. The trout here can be selective, which makes every well-earned rise feel that much better.

As always, lunch will be served on the river, giving you time to relax, reset, and take in one of Patagonia’s most classic fly-fishing landscapes. After fishing, you will be returned to your hotel with the evening free to enjoy San Martín de los Andes at your own pace.

Fishing among giants.

DAY 10: REST, recharge, Then Return Home

Around 9:30 AM we will be there to transfer you to the San Martin Airport.

Around 12 PM you will arrive in Buenos Aires at Aeroparque Airport. Our driver will be waiting with a sign to transfer you to your abbreviated stay hotel next to the international airport.

After helping you check-in your driver will bid you farewell. You will have roughly 6 hours before your flight to rest at the hotel.

One Last Thing : Don't Forget To Collect Your Trophy

A longtime friend of the Trout Lines Team, Fabian Mrad is a legendary watercolor artist and fly fisherman.

Every Trout Lines trip includes an original watercolor of your best catch during your trip to Patagonia. We will snap a picture and send it to Fabian- he will do the rest, giving you a momento to take home and cherish for always.

You may choose to visit Fabian's home studio in Buenos Aires to collect your painting and meet him, or we will have it ready at the front desk of your last hotel in a tube ready to go.

FROM RUNWAY TO RIVERBANK, we handle everything.
