Lilac Scribbles 2023-24 Final Edition

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the final Scribbles of this school year. Thanks again, as always, for being here!

The class was provided "7" caterpillars. This called for discussing the life cycle of a butterfly.

I'm so happy to report that all 7 hatched!! The majority of them hatched over the memorial day weekend. 2 hatched on our return on Tuesday. I had left sugar water and orange slices should they hatch while we were away. Boy am I glad I did!

We had a butterfly release celebration! Prior to the release, I read and discussed the following poem. I wanted the children to think on even though the animals mentioned are small and perhaps insignificant, they are living things and deserve to be unharmed. The poem is titled Hurt No Living Thing, by Christina Rosetti.

Hurt no living thing, ladybird, nor butterfly Nor moth with dusty wing, Nor cricket chirping cheerily, Nor grasshopper, light of leap, Nor dancing gnat, Nor beetle fat, Nor harmless worms that creep.

We also discussed insects, being that butterflies fall in that category. Insects are invertebrates. They have 3 parts - head, thorax and abdomen, some have antennae and wings.

The last continent map was presented - Australia. As usual, animals that are indigenous to Australia, the flag was also presented.

Garden day was beautiful. Special thanks to the parents for coming out to help AND to those that sent extra flowers for those that did not bring one. You Rock!!

We had 2 birthday celebrations. Isaiah Chacko and Aashvi Vatsa. Isaiah celebrated an "early" birthday. Happy 6th Year of Life Isaiah! Happy 5th Year of Life, Aashvi!

Lastly, introducing our Kindergarten Graduates: Isaiah Chacko and Zoey Peshkepija

CONGRATULATIONS

Well folks, it's time for the bus to come to a stop. We picked up 28 passengers along the way. We started out slowly moving around curves and up hills. At times it was a bit bumpy, but everyone held on, determined. Like the little engine that could, we climbed up the hills saying...I think I can, I think I can. Now at the top of the hill and looking down at how far we've travelled, we say...I KNEW I COULD, I KNEW I COULD. After a few moments relishing in accomplishments, we realize we've got to come down, for some on board have to transfer or make other connections or maybe travel the route at a later date. So down we come, wheeeee... to a screeching halt, the door opens! Everyone exclaims while exiting - boy - what an awesome ride! Indeed it was! THANK YOU!!

Peace and Blessings
