SIFC Staff
A Word from Maitre Sierra
Hello to all of the members of the SIFC community! As the new Director of Coaching at SIFC, I am excited to lead the enthusiastic coaches on staff, guide the development of our new curriculum and instructional methods, and support the athlete experience.
I bring over 25 years of experience in coaching and leadership in fencing with me, having worked at the highest levels of our sport in the USA. I also serve as the Head Coach for the Division 1 NCAA program at Wagner College and work as the Education Manager and a Coach Developer for the US Fencing Coaches Association. And I am a fully certified Maître d’Armes, a Fencing Master, in all three weapon disciplines.
My Role
If you have questions or concerns about the curriculum and instruction that students receive at SIFC, I am the one to talk to! My coaching philosophy can be summed up as “Athlete Centered” and the Long-Term Development of athletes is always first and foremost in my mind. I want our fencers to succeed, be healthy, and enjoy their time spent fencing.

Competition
Competing in sports can be important for several reasons, and its benefits extend beyond just physical fitness. Here are some key aspects:
• Training for and competing in sports requires dedication, perseverance, and hard work. These qualities can translate into other areas of life.
• Competing in sports teaches how to set and pursue goals, handle setbacks, and strive for improvement. Achieving personal or team goals can boost self-esteem and a sense of accomplishment.
• It's a great way to meet new friends. You often see the same people at tournaments and can ask them to warm up with you, have a bite to eat afterwards, or do a fun activity after fencing.
