I once dated a guy whose dad ended his own life while we were together, and it has stuck with me for over four years. I was trying to demonstrate the way in which he did it, but had to keep my project school appropriate, so I opted for bullet holes and a revolver barrel in place of a full weapon pictured. I feel like I was successful in trying to make it foreboding and dark in the background, with the hotline info being brighter and in front in order to convey that it’s a helping hand in those dark spaces of the human psyche.
Expansion
For this project, I was aiming to show how motor vehicles have developed over the years. I tried to make the Jeep the darkest to sort of call it outdated (even though I have the same vehicle), the tesla a little more noticeable since it’s still new, and the hydrogen car front and center as an inspiring future prospect. The goal with the colorful bubbles above the cars was to portray how gas is bad, electricity is good, and hydrogen, I couldn’t think of a good color, so I just put blue for water. I feel like I ran out of time to fully blend the colors and incorporate all the graphic elements that I wanted to, but I’m still moderately pleased with how it came out.
Old and Gold
This project was inspired by Shepard Fairey’s collage style, and the general layout and color scheme was heavily influenced by his Black Sabbath piece. I wanted to do avenged sevenfold because I love the band, so I incorporated a lot of their symbols and sayings, as well as song lists and fan art. I tried to make it appear slightly faded, due to the band being slightly older and slowly dying out in its popularity. I feel very satisfied with this piece, but I wish I’d used a larger pen for the tiny squares on the batwing skull, because it's hard to tell that they’re squares and not circles
Setbacks- Irony
This project was designed to be an ironic twist on the common saying- ‘go with the flow.’ The Jeep is mostly submerged because my idea was that this man and his dog went off-roading near a river, slipped off the rocks and can’t save their Jeep from the water, but they’re in pool floats still trying to have a good time. I’m very pleased with this piece, as I love incorporating a small bit of irony into my pieces. I hope anybody viewing it gets a good chuckle when they realize the intent of the art
Old Enough to Vote
I was aiming for something that was specific to Colorado, but a very simple design and not in explicit favor of either party. So, I took the mountains and only used red, white, and blue in order to keep it simple and easy to look at and interpret. I didn’t want to only put “I Voted” on one half of the circle, because that could be seen as saying I was encouraging voting for that particular party. Overall, I kept it very simple and face-value, so I think it would be a pretty good election sticker.
