headlands district pssa cross country

Well done to Tilly M who represented Headlands District at the PSSA Far North Coast Cross Country last Friday - we are so proud of your achievement!

2-3 literacy - poetry

K-1 maths

We have enjoyed learning about patterns and incorporating music in our lessons to identify patterns in rhythm and beat. We are also learning to solve addition problems by making patterns with our counters and counting legs on our animal counters.

k-1 maths

Students investigated 2D shapes this week through patterns and drawing using digital technology. Kindy made cylinder minions while discovering the properties of 3D shapes.

k-1 literacy

Students enjoyed creating their own Pig the Pug characters with some creative writing and paintings.

2-3 maths

Students have enjoyed engaging in length activities indoors and outdoors, experimenting with estimation in centimetres and metres.

4-6 inquiry

On National Sorry Day we read two stories about the stolen generations. We recreated sensitive and respectful stories through script writing and the use of iMovie. We also made use of the Green Screen. Younger students stepped in to be 'extras' in our films.

4-6 maths

One Year 4-6 Maths group is learning to identify, read, write and sort fractions and decimal numbers. We were able to model decimals by cutting one metre into tenths and hundreths and we used match-sticks as thousandths.

4-6 maths

The focus of Year 4-6 Maths has been volume and capacity. Students have learnt about the properties of 3D solids, compared cubic centimetres and millilitres and used the concept of water displacement to calculate the capacity and volume of our toy animals. We have been using our knowledge of fractions to record measurements.

PD/Health - Road Safety Lessons

Students from K-6 continued their learning about road safety this week. Our focus was the dangers of distracting the driver. Agitated, annoyed and overwhelmed were just some of the words used to describe the feelings students had after role playing being distracted. We then shared solutions to keeping ourselves occupied while travelling as back seat passengers.

4-6 SCIENCE

The senior class have begun investigating day and night, the universe, the solar system and the conservation of angular momentum.

P & C news

💬 P&C Meetings – Come One, Come All! Want to have a say in what’s happening at school—or just keep in the loop? Come along to our next P&C meeting! We chat about upcoming events, fundraising goals, and how to best invest in fun and meaningful projects for our kids. 📅 Next Meeting: Friday, June 20th at 8am in the School Library. ☕ Coffee (byo), good chats, and a chance to make a difference. Keep an eye out for the RSVP poll in the Newry Kids WhatsApp group—or just show up! RSVPs are helpful, but not essential.

🎆 Fireworks Night & Raffle – We Need You! Planning is full steam ahead for our much-loved Newrybar Fireworks Night! A small (but mighty) team is working hard behind the scenes—but we need more hands to make the magic happen.

🙌 How You Can Help:

  • 🎟️ Sell Raffle Tickets - Every child has taken home a booklet of tickets—if each booklet sells, we’re already halfway to our $10,000 target! Sell to family, friends, neighbours… anyone who loves supporting a great cause and winning amazing prizes!
  • 🧺 Market Stall Volunteers Needed! We’ll be selling tickets at local markets: Byron, Bangalow, Newrybar, and more. It’s a fun way to help, takes just 1–2 hours of your time, and makes a big difference. 📅 A full schedule was emailed out today and is also with Moz in the office.
  • 📱 Keen to help? Text Shannele on 0437 055 738 or reply in the WhatsApp chat.

✨ Volunteer on the Night!

  • If you’re new to the school: Fireworks Night is an all-hands-on-deck event. Every parent is rostered for a job during the event—food stalls, raffle table, entry gate, etc. Got a preference? Let us know early (we’ll do our best to accommodate!).
  • 🛠️ We also need a set-up crew on Saturday, Aug 2, and clean-up legends on Sunday morning, Aug 3.

🎁 Check Out the Prize List! The raffle prize pool is looking EPIC—and we’re still adding to it! Stay tuned for the full list in next week’s update… but trust us, you’ll want a ticket (or ten!).

This year the Archibald Prize returns to Lismore Regional Gallery for the second time, sharing all 57 finalist works from the 2024 iteration at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in a major exhibition across three of our main galleries. Judged by the trustees of AGNSW, the prize is awarded to a notable portrait painting annually. Entries to the Archibald Prize must be painted in the preceding year from at least one live sitting. Since 1921, it has highlighted figures from all walks of life, from famous faces to local heroes, reflecting the personal and intimate stories of our times. The Archibald Prize 2024 features works by Northern NSW artists Matt Adnate (winner of the Packing Room Prize), Angus McDonald and Ben Smith. The exhibition is on display from 5 July to 31 August 2025.
