Middlesex University’s GreenFin network is carrying out research on how to finance and support green innovation in the Freight and Logistics (F&L) sector.
We are developing materials to help businesses learn more about how they can achieve ‘net-zero’ and reduce their environmental impact and become a more resilient business by doing so.
Access our report assessing Nature-Positive opportunities and boundaries for the sector
Our report highlights the various pressures and drivers that influence SMEs' investment in green infrastructure and practices, including regulatory requirements, market competition, and societal norms.
It emphasies the importance of assessing and addressing sustainability to meet corporate standards and avoid reputational and compliance liabilities.
Additionally, it discusses the increasing need for businesses to consider and measure their nature-related impacts, driven by recommendations from the Taskforce for Nature-Related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and the UK's Sustainability Disclosure Standards (UK SDS).
Project activities
- Short interviews with innovators in the sector or those keen to enhance their sustainability journey in the sector
- Short ‘module-based’ videos
- Case studies of best practices or unpacking key issues to decarbonising the sector or encouraging other environmental benefits (particularly biodiversity and 'nature-positive' solutions)
- A toolkit on greening the F&L sector with links to available support and finance
- Engagement with freight and logistics sector specialists and SMEs and their supply chains
Case Studies
We are developing written and visual case studies from the freight and logistics sector to showcase best practice and highlight challenges facing Freight and Logistics companies in greening their business and seeking investment to do so.
These case studies examine businesses' experiences on greening their organisations, working with supply chains, whether being greener makes them more competitive or has additional benefits and the role of finance in supporting environmental innovation in the sector.
