City & Seaside A Perfect Escape in Denmark

Hotel Sanders, Copenhagen | Helenekilde Badehotel, Tisvildeleje

JANUARY 5, 2026... Hotel Sanders and sister property Helenekilde Badehotel offer the best of both worlds with their “City and Seaside” escape for any season. With its iconic architecture, world-renowned culinary scene, and countless cultural hot spots, it’s easy to get swept away by Copenhagen’s storybook charm, but there is more to Denmark than just the city. Create an unforgettable escape by combining two destinations. Spend a few days at Hotel Sanders followed by a visit to Helenekilde Badehotel, the star of North Sealand located in the charming seaside town of Tisvildeleje, often referred to as the Danish Riviera or the “Hamptons of Denmark.”

Owned by Creative Director, Alexander Kølpin, and a former ballet dancer, the foundation of Kolpin Hotels is based on a passion for architecture, design and the delivery of an exceptional personal experience for guests – creating a strong lifestyle brand. The intention is to offer a type of quiet luxury, maintaining the feeling of a private home, in a place with a strong sense of history and locale. To date, this has been successfully accomplished at two of Denmark’s most stylish and award-winning hotels – Helenekilde Badehotel and Hotel Sanders, a Michelin Key recipient in 2025. Each offers a distinct experience: a city sophistication at Sanders for a cosmopolitan European capital, and a relaxed chilled vibe at the simple seaside country house style retreat of Helenekilde.

Hotel Sanders

Nestled in the historic center on a quiet neighborhood street, Sanders is a landmark hotel located directly behind the Royal Danish Theatre, the property was a former hotspot for the city’s cultural cognoscenti in the 1970-80’s. The design is inspired by Alexander's personal experience and travels. He brings a refined aesthetic sensibility and ideology to the property which is deeply rooted in his creative history.

The façade is a combination of two townhouses that have now been fused into one exceptional property that houses 54 guest rooms, Sanders Kitchen, Living Room, Courtyard, Sanders Rooftop and the award-winning cocktail bar - TATA.

A variety of guestrooms have been created to suit the needs of every guest - each are singular in their style and design. Single rooms are inspired from a bygone era of luxury train cabins where guests will find comfort and luxury within the intimate space. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Sanders Suites offer the utmost in privacy and are generously spacious with separate lounge seating and open fireplaces.

Explore Copenhagen

Situated in the historic center of Copenhagen, just near the Nyhavn Canal, guests are a stroll away from the royal residences of Amalienborg Palace, the old stage of the Royal Theatre, Christiansborg Palace and the Royal Danish Opera. Lining the neighborhood’s cobbled lanes, guests will find countless quality restaurants, contemporary art galleries, museums and world class shopping. The hotel will create genuine experiences both within the hotel walls and around Copenhagen.

HELENEKILDE BADEHOTEL

A 50 minute drive from the historic center of Copenhagen or a 1 ¼ hour train ride, you can immerse yourself in Helenekilde Badehotel, in the town of Tisvildeleje in North Zealand. A beach town for Copenhagen creatives, known for its untouched nature and pristine beaches. The 24-room property sits on a bluff with sweeping views of the Kattegat and a pathway leading down to the sea for your invigorating morning dip.

One might describe the experience at the hotel as staying in the home of a well-traveled friend. That friend would be owner Alexander Kølpin, whose inimitable style defines the atmosphere which is incredibly stylish yet entirely low key. Kølpin oversaw the restoration, carefully preserving and furnishing the building, transforming it into a hotel in 2008. The idea was to maintain the history of the place yet keep the natural surroundings as a key focus so as not overpower it with too much design. "The overall vibe and style of the hotel is simple, yet it delivers a rich experience,' says Karim Nielsen, CEO of Kølpin Hotels. The accommodations are simply decorated yet furnished with everything you need.

A stay at Helenekilde puts you in touch with the sea, forest, beach and the special light that is unique to this part of the world. It takes no effort to disconnect with technology and reconnect with nature, arriving in a place that is known for healing powers.

I

Kilden is Helenekilde’s classic restaurant, where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served overlooking Kattegat serving food made from the freshest local ingredients that vary with the season. Breakfast is healthy, hearty and homemade – from the bread to the jams, the spreads and granola. In fine weather you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner on the terrace. As the night cools, wrap yourself in a soft warm blanket in the evenings as you watch the sunset turn into an incredibly starry night with a glass of bubbly.

Public spaces are welcoming – the comfortable lounge area flows into the bar whose doors and windows open to the sea view and outside terrace. The garden offers a petanque court where you can enjoy a tall cool drink on a hot summer day. In fall and winter you can simply cosy up inside.

Take time to breathe deeply and relax – you’re home.

Combine a fresh sea bath with our beautiful sauna, overlooking Kattegat. Relax – and enjoy a very special moment at Helenekilde Badehotel. Take a break and give space to thoughts, inspiration and well-being. Recharge yourself with a dip and enjoy the sunset from our sauna’s panoramic window with views of Hesselø.

Since 1904, guests have been walking along the path to the beach with towels and the expectation of a charitable sea bath. Guests love the bathing tradition at Helenekilde Badehotel – both during summer and winter.

Discover Tisvildeleje

Tisvilde is a former fishing village whose houses are now used as charming summer residences. The beaches are known for their white sands and ever-changing soft dunes. Colorful bath houses make for a perfect photo op along the beach. Alternatively, take a hike or guided bike tour through the nearby forest – Tisvilde Hegn, a nature reserve of rare fauna, flora and important birdlife. Enjoy a nice trip on Kattegat in a sea kayak or canoe and see Tisvilde’s beautiful coast from the water side.

Dip into the incredibly clean and clear seawater, bike through the town to window shop its trendy boutiques or sit and contemplate absolutely nothing as you gaze at the sea views from Helenekilde Badehotel.
