It's the Holiday Season!
As November begins, it's hard to believe the holiday season is right around the corner.
Soon, we'll be gathering with loved ones to celebrate, filling our homes with joy and warmth. However, as the weather cools and we spend more time indoors, the holidays can also bring higher energy use, and a greater risk of electrical and fire hazards.
At Central Georgia EMC (CGEMC), we care about your safety and well-being. That's why we’d like to share some practical tips to help you stay safe and energy-efficient during this festive season:
- Check your electrical cords and lights. Before decorating, ensure they aren’t frayed or damaged. This simple step offers peace of mind, knowing your holiday lights will safely brighten your home.
- Test your smoke alarms regularly. If you enjoy holiday-scented candles like we do, make sure to never leave them unattended, as they can pose fire hazards. Testing your smoke alarms regularly only takes seconds and can save lives.
- Save energy during gatherings. With more time spent indoors and extra guests in the home, energy use can spike. Lower the thermostat a few degrees, especially when entertaining, since the warmth from your guests will help heat your home.
- Decorate with LED holiday lights. They are more energy-efficient and longer-lasting than traditional bulbs.
- Save energy in the kitchen. Use smaller countertop appliances like air fryers, slow cookers, and toaster ovens, which consume far less energy than your main oven.
We hope these tips help you enjoy a safe, warm, and energy-efficient holiday season. From all of us at CGEMC, We wish you a merry and bright holiday season!

2024 Residential Rebates
Rebate Deadline : December 20, 2024
Is it time for an upgrade? Save energy and money with CGEMC's 2024 rebates!
Nearly half of energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling. Upgrading an outdated or aging system can save you money. If your unit is more than 10 years old and needs frequent repairs, it may be time to replace it.
Water heaters use more energy than your refrigerator, clothes washer, dishwasher, and dryer combined. Upgrading your water heater can save you hundreds of dollars yearly on energy costs. Visit www.cgemc.com for details.
*A load management switch must be installed on qualifying equipment by a Central Georgia EMC employee before the rebate can be processed. The load management switch must remain on equipment and in operating status as long as Central Georgia EMC has a load management program. Limit one (1) qualifying heat pump and/or one (1) qualifying water heater rebate per member/household. Heat pump and/or water heater must have been installed on or after January 1, 2024.
Community Enrichment, the Co-op Way!
Central Georgia EMC (CGEMC) presented 24 checks in October totaling $335,600 to area chambers of commerce, industrial development authorities, and school boards throughout the service territory. These funds come from capital credits that remain unclaimed after five years.
Capital credits are margins over and above the cost of providing service for CGEMC customer-owners for a specific year after financial obligations have been met. Unclaimed capital credits that remain after five years stay in the communities served by CGEMC for the sole purposes of funding education, economic development, and 501(c)(3) charitable organizations in the EMC service area.
Student Opportunities Now Available!
We are now accepting applications for the statewide $1,000 Walter Harrison Scholarship program. Additionally, the top three applicants from CGEMC will receive a $500 Central Georgia EMC Powering the Future Scholarship. That's two scholarship opportunities with just one application!
We are also looking for 2025 Washington Youth Tour representatives. Each year, two local high school students are chosen by Central Georgia EMC to go on the Washington Youth Tour. This trip to Washington, D.C., is a unique leadership experience, with visits to major sites and meetings with state and national leaders.
They will join over 100 delegates from Georgia and 1,500 students from across the country—all expenses paid—for an unforgettable week! More information can be found on our website at www.cgemc.com/scholarships and at www.cgemc.com/washington-youth-tour.

Operation round up Spotlight on Tennis People Inc.
Operation Round Up is an inspiring initiative that shows how small acts of kindness can spark meaningful change in a community. With just a few cents, you can help transform lives and strengthen the bonds within neighborhoods.
Tennis People Inc. is a shining example of this impact. Founded by Bonnie Wainwright, a longtime tennis coach and passionate volunteer, she has devoted her time to creating inclusive opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities. The organization, rooted in the belief that everyone should have the chance to enjoy sports, offers year-round programming that includes instruction, drills, league play, tournaments, and weekly practices.
Tennis People Inc. fosters a welcoming, vibrant community where players can grow, form lasting friendships, and develop essential life skills. Whether it’s learning teamwork, gaining self-confidence, or mastering discipline, these lessons stretch far beyond the tennis court.
All of this is possible because of the generosity of CGEMC Operation Round Up participants. When you round up your electric bill, you're doing more than donating spare change. You are actively helping build a better, more inclusive future for your community. Operation Round Up is proof that a little generosity can go a long way in changing lives and spreading hope.
If you would like to join us in making your change count, visit our website at www.cgemc.com/operation-round. Operation Round Up donations are tax-deductible.
In September, the CGEMC Foundation Board granted $14,500 to charitable organizations in our territory. The funds will support programs and initiatives in the communities CGEMC serves.
- Brave Meadows Therapeutic Riding Center: $3,000 to purchase hay and feed.
- Five Loaves Two Fish Food Pantry: $2,000 to assist with the purchase of a bar code scanner, signature pad, and computer with a monitor that would be utilized for their food distribution program.

Qualifying 501(c)(3) organizations in our service territory are invited to submit an application to the Central Georgia EMC Foundation.
Through Operation Round Up, our members support local organizations with a mission to make our communities even better places to live, work, and dream big. By simply rounding up your monthly electric bill to the next dollar, you can join in! Our pennies add up to make BIG CHANGE!
Is a mini-split Heat Pump system right for you?
Imagine having a personalized comfort zone in your home where each room has its own perfect temperature. That’s exactly what ductless mini-split systems offer! They allow you to control the temperature in individual rooms without affecting the whole house.
These mini-split systems are energy-efficient because they don’t use ductwork, meaning no energy is lost through long ducts. You can install these systems in rooms like attics or basements, where adding ducts isn’t practical. Each room gets its own thermostat, letting you heat or cool only the spaces you use, saving energy and money.
Mini-split systems are quiet and improve air quality. They have flexible placement options, as well as can be ducted or ductless. Mini-split systems are highly efficient and often with better energy ratings than traditional systems. However, they can be more expensive upfront and may need backup heating in colder climates.
CGEMC also offers rebates to help you save even more when you upgrade to a mini-split system. This can reduce the upfront cost, making it a smart, energy-efficient investment for your home.
If you're considering upgrading your home’s heating or cooling system, ask a technician about a mini-split system and visit www.cgemc.com/residential-rebates to see how Central Georgia EMC’s rebates can help!
