Welcome back to Term 2!

ANZAC - School Ceremony

We held a genuinely beautiful ceremony on Friday last week to mark ANZAC day. Our captains excelled at running the event and making our special guests feel welcome. Thanks to Ms Williams for organising.

Dawn Service

A shout out to the dedicated students that attended the Dawn Service on Saturday. They represented our school with pride. Thanks to Ms Stanton for leading the combined choirs.

Staff Development Days

Our school staff had two development days last week that saw us complete mandatory training, whole school planning and classroom planning. Our mandatory training was all about inclusive practices and designing our student learning plans. Our whole school planning focused on explicit teaching and formative assessment. 

Sport

Boys PSSA Basketball Last week we ran tryouts for our boys Basketball team to Vs Ocean Shores Public School on Monday, 11 May.

Headlands Cross Country We have received the details for the Headlands Cross Country Carnival today and will be sending out permission notes tomorrow for those students that qualified. 

School Athletics Carnival Our school athletics carnival will be held on Tuesday, 2 June, mark it in your calendar.  

The Arts

Art Enrichment We are very excited to be sending some of our amazing artists to Create Art Studio today with our other VoSS schools. This is an enrichment excursion for those high achieving students within the Visual Arts from Year 5 and 6. QLD Symphony Orchestra - Peter and The Wolf All Years 3 - 6 will be attending Peter and The Wolf on Friday, 5 June in Brisbane. We are so excited to be able to take our students to this incredible performance. Note and payment information will be sent out over the next two weeks.

Kindy - Kate Gallagher (Monday - Wednesday & Friday) and Tahnae Andrews (Thursday) Year 1 - Nikki Perin (Monday, Wednesday - Friday) and Robyn Rowland (Tuesday) Year 2 - Kieron White (Monday - Thursday) and Tahnae Andrews (Friday) Class 3/4 - Lou Glorie (Monday - Thursday) and Will Glasson (Friday) Class 4/5 - Rhianon Williams (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday) and Robyn Rowland (Wednesday) Year 6 - Peta Jones (Monday & Tuesday) and Holly Stanton (Wednesday - Friday) Throughout the term staff do take personal leave (Long Service, Sick or Family), we are very lucky to have some excellent casual teachers to cover these days.

Learning Programs Audit

We are edging closer to submitting out learning programs to the Department of Education. We have been chosen to participate in the curriculum Monitoring Process this year. This year there is a focus on the History Syllabus, Assessment, Learning Plans and Timetabling. We are looking forward to showcasing our school and receiving feedback for further growth.

SRC

Our SRC will be reviewing our behaviour procedures next week when they meet with Mrs Jones to give us feedback on how to best support all of our students.

Winter Festival - Sunday, 21 June

The Winter Festival team is starting to pull everything together. We will be reviewing the planning progress and next steps at the next P & C meeting to be held on Friday, 8 May in The Shed at the Billinudgel Hotel.
