Women's Lacrosse Returns to NCAA Tournament
Colby's Women's Lacrosse team learned Monday morning that their season is not over, qualifying for the NCAA Division III Lacrosse tournament as one of only 17 at-large spots. Seven NESCAC schools are set to appear on the national stage.
Colby will face off against Cortland Saturday at 1:00. The regional round is hosted by Wesleyan.
McLaughlin Returns to Mayflower Hill To Lead Men's Basketball
Colby College is pleased to announce that the men's basketball program will be led by David McLaughlin, a dynamic leader with coaching success at the Division I, II, and III levels and a proven record of attracting and developing players with elite academic standards. A Colby graduate of the Class of 1997, McLaughlin now holds the title honoring Richard L. Whitmore Jr., the influential coach who helped mold, challenge, and mentor McLaughlin when he was a student-athlete at Colby.
Baseball Takes Opener in NESCAC Playoffs, Falls to Amherst in Three
The Colby Baseball team traveled to Amherst, Mass. for the opening round of the conference tournament, taking on the top seed from NESCAC West, the Amherst Mammoths.
The Mules used a spectacular pitching performance in game one to defeat Amherst 3-2 in 10 innings. Thomas Rioux held the most explosive offense in the NESCAC to two runs through the first five frames, and Kyle Bourque took it the rest of the way holding the Mammoths without a run, allowing the Mules a chance at the win. In the top of the 10th, Tony Silva hit his second double of the game and was driven in moments later for the game-winner.
With their backs against the wall Saturday, Amherst elevated their play to avoid elimination. With a complete-game no-hitter in the morning game, and a walk-off single in the ninth inning of the nightcap, the Mammoths issued the Mules their first Quarterfinal series defeat in the last five years.
Colby ends their season with a 20-15 record, reaching the 20-win mark for the fifth straight season.
Mules Push Top-Seeded Wesleyan in NESCAC Quarterfinals
The Colby Women’s Tennis team traveled to tournament hosts Middlebury on Friday morning for a high-stakes NESCAC Quarterfinal matchup against the number one seeded Cardinals.
The eighth seeded Mules saw their postseason run come to an end with a 4-0 loss. Despite the scoreline, Colby nearly stunned the Cardinals in doubles play, highlighted by a dominant 6-2 victory from Isabella Suk and Michaela Landry at the No. 1 position. With the doubles point decided by a narrow 7-6 (5) tiebreaker at the No. 3 spot, Wesleyan managed to escape with the early lead and eventually clinched the match with three straight-set wins in singles. The performance marked a resilient finish to the season for the Mules, who secured their fifth consecutive trip to the conference tournament.
Women's Tennis, who went 7-11 this season, will be back in action this fall.
Men’s Tennis Battles No. 2 Bowdoin in NESCAC Quarterfinals
The Mules headed to Middletown, Connecticut, on Friday afternoon for a NESCAC Quarterfinal showdown with No. 2 seeded Bowdoin, pushing the Polar Bears in a series of tightly contested singles battles.
After dropping the doubles point, Colby flashed its potential early in singles play, as Jason Daly (No. 1), Rhys Spano (No. 2), and Diego Sosa (No. 3) all captured their opening sets against their top-tier opponents. Marco Ziets-Segura furthered the Mules’ effort at the No. 4 spot, forcing a third set before Bowdoin clinched the match with straight-set victories at the bottom of the ladder. This postseason performance marks the end of a resilient season for Colby, who navigated a difficult DIII schedule.
The Mules finish the year having secured their fifth consecutive NESCAC postseason appearance and a 6-11 overall record. The team will be back on the courts in the fall.
Track & Field Wins Four Events at the D3 New England Championships
Colby's Track & Field team continued its championship drive at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Springfield College. The women's team placed 4th overall in a field of 38 teams, and the men's team finished 11th out of 35 squads.
The women's team was led by Simone Waheed (200m) and the 4x100 and 4x400 Relay squads, winning their events in impressive fashion. The Mules collected eight top-10 finishes.

The men's team owned the Pole Vault, not only with event winner Lexington Lehnert, but also with Logan Lehnert and Wyatt Patterson placing 4th and 5th, respectively.

Softball Rolls into NESCAC Tournament as 3rd Seed
With splits against Bates and Bowdoin this week, Colby closed out the regular season as the 3rd seed in the NESCAC entering postseason play. Their 25 wins tops the previous program record of 24 from the 2023 season.
Sophia Meade was electric in the circle in a midweek showdown at Bates, earning her first no-hitter of her career in a 2-0 win. Carissa Cassidy stayed hot at the plate, going 4-4 in the opener to account for both of Colby's runs. The Bobcats were able to even the series in the nightcap with a 4-2 win.
In Saturday's split with the Polar Bears, Caroline DeSimone created fireworks with an extra-inning walk-off homerun in game one. The smash to lead off the bottom of the 8th was her second of the game, and eighth of the season. Meade got her second win of the week in the circle and now has 10 on the season.
The Mules celebrated the careers of six seniors in between games on Saturday.
Colby currently sits at 25-10 and has earned the third seed in next weekend's double-elimination NESCAC tournament. The Mules will first face off Saturday at noon against the sixth-seeded Trinity Bantams. All games will be played at Bowdoin.
Men’s and Women’s Crew Battle Regional Field at New Englands
The Mules traveled to Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts, on Saturday to compete in the New England Rowing Championships, facing off against a deep field of premier regional programs.
The Colby Men led the charge by qualifying for three Grand Finals, highlighted by the First Varsity Eight finishing sixth in the region's marquee event (6:08.12). The Second Varsity Eight also secured a sixth-place finish in their Grand Final (6:22.16), while the Third Varsity Eight (6:27.78) and Fourth Varsity Eight (7:03.23) both delivered top-five performances in their final races. On the women’s side, the Mules showed great resilience in the afternoon sessions, with both the First Varsity Eight (7:03.22) and Second Varsity Eight (7:22.62) securing strong fourth-place finishes in their respective Petite Finals. Additionally, the Third Varsity Eight powered to a fourth-place finish in their Petite Final (7:37.12), rounding out a day of high-level competition against the Northeast's best.
Both programs now look ahead to the National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC) next weekend as they aim to sharpen their speed for the final stretch of the championship season.
Chilicki Earns NESCAC Rookie of the Year
First-year Eli Chilicki took home one of the NESCAC's major awards this week when the conference unveiled its season honors. The forward led Colby in goals (31) and points (42) and ranked amongst the conference's best. Chilicki joins Austin Sayre (2014), Ian Deveau (2010), and Caddy Brooks (2006) on Colby's NESCAC ROY list.
