Johnston Community Primary School January 12th 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that you and your family had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year break. It was lovely to welcome pupils back on Monday and, as usual, pupils were pleased to see their friends. We have settled straight back into learning in classes on what is a relatively short term when compared with the autumn.

We are going to hold back on after school clubs for the time being as it is often so wet and dark through January and February before re-starting as we enter the spring.

As ever, if there is anything that I can help with, my email address is Williamsr1688@hwbcymru.net

Kind regards,

Mr. Williams.

Celebration Video - Year Four Camp Out!

As you may know, we have developed a close relationship with Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and they have funded many of the trips and experiences which we have been able to offer. During the summer, Bryony Rees, the outdoor schools coordinator arranged for a film company to make a film of our overnight camping experience and it contains some lovely interviews with pupils. If you click on the link button bellow, it should take you to the facebook page which contains the video.

Curriculum Corner

For the next few weeks, pupils are going to be exploring an enquiry question linked to our local area and Wales. When pupils are younger, the curriculum starts by looking at the local area, before building out to the wider World.

Enquiry Questions...

  • Y6 -What makes Wales a healthy and vibrant country?
  • Y5- How did Owain Glyndwr shape modern Wales?
  • Y4 - What was life like under the last Prince of Wales?
  • Y3 - How does the Cleddau shape our County?
  • Y2 - Where is Johnston and what makes ia a special village?
  • Y1- Who are the people in my family and what have they done?
  • Early Years - Ticket to Ride! How do we travel in our local area?
  • LRC 1 - What do we know about Space?
  • LRC 2 - Which food do we prefer, Welsh or French?

Please ensure that pupils are booked for Friday afternoon provision using this form. This allows me to plan staffing effectively.

We have had great fun at some of our topic launches this week!

Another special visitor trying to steal some apple!

Competition - Design a Hedgehog Awareness Poster

I thought that is might be worth sharing this link as a competition that pupils might like to enter for homework.

Attendance Reminder

This week, our attendance has been 93.4% This is our best week since October 2023.

Don't forget the really useful guidance provided by the NHS: Is my child too ill for school?

This will help you make a decision about whether to keep a child off school or send them in. Please remember that minor coughs and colds should not prevent a child from coming into school.

This time of year is really exciting and busy. If children miss school they are not only missing learning, but often will miss lots of our special events and activities, which makes them feel left out.
