Message from the Leadership Team
Dear Noadswood families, As you’ll see in our events section, we’re heading into one of the busiest and most exciting periods of the school year, with plenty of activities and celebrations ahead. A few logistics first: We’d like to remind you that Monday 8th December is an INSET day, and the school will be closed to all students. We would also like to remind you that on Friday 19th December, as usual we will be holding our end-of-year assemblies. On this day, the school will close at approximately 12:30pm (please note that celebrations may mean we finish just a few minutes later). The schedule for the day is as follows: 08:45 – 09:00 Tutor Time 09:00 – 09:45 Period 1 09:45 – 10:30 Period 2 10:30 – 10:45 Break Time 10:50 – 11:10 Year 7 Assembly 11:10 – 11:30 Year 8 Assembly 11:30 – 11:50 Year 9 Assembly 11:50 – 12:10 Year 10 Assembly 12:10 – 12:30 Year 11 Assembly If any families require their child to stay on site until 2:50pm, please email erollett@noadswood.hants.sch.uk. We would like to say how proud we are of our Year 11 students for the dedication and commitment they are showing towards their exams. Many of them have been attending after-school revision sessions, and this hard work will make a real difference as they prepare for both their current mock exams and their final exams next year. Should you have any questions or concerns—academic, pastoral, wellbeing or practical—please contact the team at year11@noadswood.hants.sch.uk. We are currently finalising our Spring Term after-school revision calendar and will share this with you before the end of term. A couple of highlights from this week: it was terrific to see the Class of 2025 at their KS4 Presentation and Awards Evening. A genuinely missed year group, the atmosphere was so lovely. We continue to be ever so thankful to them for all they contributed to life here and for all they achieved, as well as to their superb parents and carers. The event was led by their very proud Year Leader and Assistant Year Leader, Mrs Way and Miss Fitzgerald, and up on the stage I had next to me Kyle Hall, one of our Trustees, to welcome everyone to the evening. We were also welcomed by his dog, our well-known and loved Ralph, who was greeted very joyfully by the students who had come up with the idea for us to have a therapy dog in the main school. He cheered loudly at the end, too!
Secondly, it was great to hear from our Careers Lead, Miss Clews, about the success achieved by three of our boys who have won an award for a presentation they gave at the Iconstruct event last month. They have been invited to an awards event at Solent University in January. The presentation had to be put together at pace and presented to three judges, who also put them through their paces with a host of questions. They showed super leadership skills as well as knowledge, working well together, under pressure, and succeeded against many other school groups also in attendance. It was good to have the chance to celebrate with them today and I look forward to hearing more after the presentation. Congratulations to one and all.
Looking forward to seeing as many of you as can make it at our Craft Fayre tomorrow – my choir is ready to usher in the festive season with you. I am thankful to Mrs Wyse, our Business Manager, for all the work that has gone into organising this event, and I know it will be a lovely Noadswood family atmosphere in our school. With our best wishes for the weekend ahead, Kathryn Marshall and the Noadswood Leadership Team

Geography Department Visit to Ordnance Survey
On Monday 24th November, a group of year 9 students visited the Ordnance Survey Head Office in Southampton for a GIS (Geographical information Systems) workshop. During the afternoon, the students were given the opportunity to see how various data is presented on digital maps and how this is used in a variety of ways from deciding the location of housing developments to providing information for emergency planning. The students also participated in some fieldwork, where they were given the chance to use the ‘gridpoint gb’ app to identify their location and a digital decibel meter to record sound at various locations. Once they had collected their data, they were shown how the data could be presented in Excel and imported into Digi maps, which is the digital version of OS maps. The students were then able to analysis their results to see if there was a pattern between location and noise level. During the year, the students will use their knowledge of Digi maps to support other year groups. I would like to thank all students for their excellent behaviour and engaging in all the activities. They were particularly great at answering plenty of questions and earning themselves an OS pen.
Awesome Alumni
Phyllis May A Noadswood student 1975-1980
I left Noadswood School in 1980 and began my working life at Dreamland, the electric-blanket factory, where I stayed for nine years. After marrying Barry in 1987, we bought our first home in Blackfield and enjoyed a wonderful honeymoon in Florida and the Bahamas. While raising our four children, I returned to study and completed a Level 3 Early Years Childcare and Education qualification at Totton College, later working as both an assistant and a manager at Langdown Pre-School. In 2007 we moved to New Zealand, where I worked as a home educator before becoming a family/whānau coordinator in 2012. We also bought a rural lifestyle property and embraced a new way of living. After Barry passed away in 2013, I returned to the UK briefly and then resettled in Kaiapoi before later moving back into the city. I continued working in childcare and education, including as a nanny, a home educator, and later in a care home supporting adults with intellectual disabilities. I’ve also undertaken further study, completing an online Level 4 Certificate in Business covering Xero, payroll, taxation, and accounting—an achievement I’m especially proud of. Travel has been a major highlight throughout my life: multiple trips to Florida with the children, visits home to the UK, and a six-week trip around the USA and Canada in 2023. In 2024 and 2025 I travelled to the UK for family weddings and enjoyed a memorable stopover in Singapore. I now have two grandchildren, a foster son, and a lively Labrador, Loki. After many years of dedicated work, study, and family life, I’m looking forward to retirement and travelling even more in the future.
Last few spaces for the Wreath Making Evening are available to book before 2pm Saturday 29th November 2025
