The Week Ahead

Cold Weather Reminders

Temperatures are expected to by very cold this week, and we want to take this opportunity to remind your child to dress appropriately for school. While they are outside waiting for the bus, or even just walking into school, cold can impact kids quickly! Hats, gloves (especially for bus riders) and jackets are a must this week!! If your child doesn't have any of those items we can help connect you with resources.

NWEA Starting Starts 1/26

Winter NWEA testing begins Monday January 26. Students will take their test in Math and Reading this winter through their classes. Our focus in the winter cycle is GROWTH! Each child has a specific growth target based on where they should be. We will be rewarding ALL STUDENTS who hit that growth target with a special breakfast at the end of February. Have a conversation with your child about taking the test seriously, trying their best, so we can get an accurate snapshot of where they are so we can tailor our help and support for them. Below are some ways you as parents can help us out!

Support Checklist

As we are just about at the conclusion of Semester 1 and heading into Semester 2, now is a good time to remind parents how you can help us raise academic expectations with your child and help them be academically successful! Parents and guardians play a powerful role in student success. Here are some simple ways you can support your child academically and help them stay on track. Together, we can help students build strong habits, confidence, and academic success. Thank you for partnering with us!

Positive Referrals This Week (week of Jan. 12-16)

The following students were recognized with a "positive referral" to the office the week before break for exhibiting one of our MSE Character Traits or other positive behaviors! Thanks for being great!

Every school day matters. When students are healthy and able to attend, it gives them the chance to keep learning, connect with friends, and grow both socially and academically. Please remember to use the district calendar posted at www.lc-ps.org to plan your vacations and trips for the remainder of the school year. Students have many breaks and opportunities to take trips that don't impact their learning. Your support makes such a difference in helping children feel connected and prepared. If a child is sick, a doctor or urgent care note should accompany that absence or doctors note for appointments. Any other absence will count as verified or unverified and will count towards possible filing of truancy charges once your student generates over 10 absences this year. Please reach out to your child's counselor, or the main office, if you need any help with regular attendance.

MSE/LCPS Communication

We utilize the district's School Messenger platform to send out updates to parents, students, and staff.
