Relieving Principal's Message

Last week, I had the pleasure of travelling to Sydney and attending the Public Education Awards held at Town Hall in Sydney. I was lucky enough to be invited on stage to accept an Award on behalf of the Ballina Public School staff. To say that was an honour is an understatement. I am so incredibly proud of every member of my staff and the amazing things they do everyday to meet the needs of and support your children. I would like to personally thank them for their dedication and ongoing hard work that allows our students to excel and be their best. You now have bragging rights that your child attends an award-winning public school. Well done Ballina PS!

Last Friday we opened our classroom doors for the first time in many years and invited parents and carers to join us and see the outstanding work we do every day in the classroom. I would like to thank our families for the overwhelming support we received. The amount of visitors who joined us was phenomenal! We loved seeing the look of pride on each child’s face as they shared their learning and classroom environment with the people they love the most. Thank you for being such a valued part of our school community.

Just a reminder that if you have or know someone who has a child starting Kindergarten next year who has not yet enrolled to please contact the front office and get the process started. Our Kindergarten 2026 transition program begins in only a few short weeks and we don’t want to miss anyone! We are really looking forward to meeting all our new faces and their families.

Well done to all of our students who attend school everyday and make the most of their learning opportunities. Attendance is such an important part of giving your child the best educational start they can have. Arriving on time and being ready to learn each day really does give your child an advantage. Congratulations to those families who make the effort to ensure we see those smiling faces every single day.

It has been an incredibly busy start to the term in 1/2T! We have been learning to identify the features of 3D shapes and we made some shapes using small sticks and playdough. This was quite tricky!

NAIDOC Day celebrations were great fun. Our favourite activity was art and craft, we made key chains and special pens, scratch art and decorated small wooden animal shapes.

Our K-2 sports day was a huge success and we cheered loudly for our friends when they raced. We tried our very best in each event.

On 6th August, students had the exciting opportunity to attend the Byron Writers Festival, a vibrant celebration of storytelling, literature, and big ideas. Held at the picturesque Bangalow Showground, the festival featured a range of engaging sessions—including author talks, panels, and performances—covering topics from fiction and memoir to politics and the environment. It was a day filled with inspiration, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for the power of words.

Below are our student's responses about the day:

Marshall: The authors talking about how and why they wrote their books.

Raven: My favourite author Sally Ribbons, was very kind and I liked drawing the picture.

Declan: I like Peter Helliar, he was super funny and I also liked how the day was set up.

Alaric: I liked the middle person (Maxine Clarke) because I enjoyed the poems she shared.

Oscar: I liked Peter because he shared his books from when he was a child.

Indi: I loved the poems and when we got to draw the monster and the books Peter shared from when he was a kid, they were very creative.

Amarissa: The authors were really nice and funny.

Carmiya: It was a fun experience, to meet different authors and learn about how they got their passions for writing and illustrating.
