Uchenna Kellman-Nicholes

Uchenna Kellman is very passionate about basketball and as he said himself “ it feels like I can be in a completely different world in front of peoples’ eyes.” Having this passionate attitude has helped him achieve many of his goals throughout life.

"I have always loved playing sports," Kellman stated. "But, basketball was the sport I felt the most passionate about."

Kellman also played football when he was a little kid.

Kellman has had many achievements throughout his life. He was on high honor roll for most of his highschool years. He is working on getting an internship but back at home, he works with his family with the family business. "Working so hard in school really translated into real world experience," Kellman said. "Having that experience has helped me become more productive and independent in life."

Kellman is on a scholarship for basketball at North Carolina A&T. He has made it on the principal list a handful of times. Kellman is very passionate about his education and making his family proud.

"Education gave me a gateway to learning about myself and how to function in the world," Kellman said. "Now I feel like being in college really helped improve my confidence and my self esteem."

Kellman is a very outgoing person. He is currently not in any clubs but he is looking into getting into any business clubs or anything related to that. He has a love for video games like Call of Duty, GTA V, and many other games.

"I have never had an interest in clubs in high school," Kellman stated. "But now I want to expand my mindset and go out to explore."

Kellman’s family grew up very Christian. He used to go to church every Sunday. But when he started playing AAU travel basketball, he wasn’t able to due to the schedule issues. He also helps at the local food bank to help his community.

"My grandma was always reading her bible when I saw her," Kellman said. "I have always believed in God and till this day, I still pray every morning to him, thanking him for everything he has given me."

Kellman grew up with his mother, father, little brother and sister in the city of Orlando, Florida. Being able to live there has shown him the beauty and horror behind the scenes of famous cities.

"Growing up in Florida was a great experience," Kellman said. "But I was looking for a different environment and North Carolina gave me that."

Kellman has a great path set up in life. His work ethic and leadership has helped him become who he is today and what he’s capable of. As a black male playing basketball at a HBCU, he acknowledges the fact that people wish to be in his place or even want him to be unsuccessful. With what he has now, he will be able to overcome many challenges and obstacles in his life.

"I am very excited about what life has in store for me," Kellman said. "I have a lot of confidence in myself to be very successful and continue to have a great life."
