Welcome to this week's newsletter
We see some great things happening at Manor School, but this week had a whole range of great things happen in a short space of time. We have hosted two visits from Wollaston and Huxlow for different football matches. On Wednesday, our Year 8 boys team beat both schools in fine style to reach the district final. The double was then repeated on Thursday evening when the Year 9 and 10 girls beat the same schools to take them through to the district final. The wins were great, but what was really good to see was many members of our community coming together to support the teams and make these games happen. We had sixth form students refereeing the games, lower school students were assistant referees and running the line, and students from different year groups were joined by parents, carers and staff to support the teams to victory. A great example of the power of community and being stronger together. Thank you to the PE department for organising the fixtures and coaching the teams to victory.
I have been privileged to visit a number of lessons this week to see students and staff working together to develop new knowledge and skills. Whether it was Year 10s learning about different types of pastry in food tech, Year 11s learning about parabolas and equations, Year 12s learning about the break-even point or Year 7s looking at fractions, it is good to see students engaging in learning and using their mini whiteboards to practice new techniques and processes. The lessons were a positive place to be with a great atmosphere of learning, but also making mistakes and learning from these.
It was a pleasure to lead assemblies with different year groups. The focus was on the rights and responsibilities we have in our community. We reflected on the role that different people in our whole community play, especially our site team who do an amazing job at keeping the school running, doing vital tasks that can be taken for granted. It was great to see the majority of students start the day in perfect uniform and with their 'Be Ready Bags' before they went off for a day of learning.
Finally, the crowning achievement of the school week was the opportunity to see the amazing production of High School Musical on Thursday night. The show had already been running for two nights, for which I had already heard some positive things from. However, the two hours of theatre I was treated to on Thursday was a great experience. It was such a positive seeing students from Year 7 to 13 working together in perfect harmony to produce fabulous entertainment for the many guests who attended. From our stage actors to the musicians who accompanied them and the stage crew who made the show flow, it was an amazing example of what our school can do when we work as a team. To quote High School Musical, we're all in this together, and this production was a great way to show what a superb community Manor School is. Thank you to Mrs Jarvis, Miss Downie and Mrs Parker for their amazing effort, hard work, organisation and for inspiring these students to produce a performance of such a high standard. It was a pleasure to experience it.
Have a great weekend and I look forward to seeing people around school next week.

Sports news
Girls U15 football
The final games of the district league took place this week with top of the table clashes against Huxlow and Wollaston.
Our first game was against Huxlow, which proved to be a competitive game with both sides showing some high levels of skill and shots on goal. Manor eventually broke the deadlock as Libby W took the ball from the back, beating a number of players and laying the ball off to Darcy C whose shot crept in at the post despite the keepers efforts to keep it out, ending this game with a 1-0 win.
Our second game against Wollaston saw some excellent performances again by the girls, with scoring opened by Olivia M who had beaten her opposing player on the wing to smash the ball into the net. Our second goal came from Alanna B whose well-timed run from inside her own half saw her through 1-1 with the keeper to slot the ball home. Darcy C subbed back on to give Manor their third goal as another through-ball found her on the wing. Wollaston scored a goal as a ball rebounded from Jenna S in goal, but Amelie B soon put a final goal away to secure the win by intercepting the Wollaston goalkeeper's clearance and, without hesitation, hammered the ball into the net. This game finished with a 4-1 win.
The girls have performed brilliantly as a team, supporting each other and all taking the time to sub on and off when we got to games where the other teams' number were less than ours. The girls are now through to the district final to compete for the cup on 13 May, with the venue yet to be decided.
Boys U13 football
This week saw our team in action against Huxlow and Wollaston. Huxlow was our first match and despite having the majority of the possession and looking a real threat in front of goal, we found ourselves scratching our head as we went 1-0 down to a counterattack from Huxlow. Tommy then levelled the game five minutes later with a wonder strike leaving the goalkeeper stunned. Manor kept the intensity and dominance up throughout the game by adding a further three goals (two from Jayden plus a second from Tommy) for a convincing 4-1 win.
The second game against Wollaston proved a lot tougher, just as the boys were expecting with both teams sitting near the top of the table. It was a very even contest throughout with the boys playing some good link-up football, leading to a goal and holding out for a 1-0 victory.
Well done boys on two solid performances and looking like topping the table pending on a few missing results.
Extra-curricular timetable
Please note that there will be no PE clubs taking place on the last day of term (Friday 4 April). As our musical has now taken place, there will therefore be no rehearsals next week. Furthermore, there will be no music clubs taking place next week.
