WELCOME TO THE METRO
ESTABLISHING A CLEARER IDENTITY
As part of the Conference’s strategic planning process that began in 2023, one of the consistent themes that emerged was the need to strengthen the Conference’s national visibility and overall brand clarity. The Conference has built a strong reputation through its institutions, student-athletes, academic achievement, competitive success, and memorable runs in March. However, its identity was often impacted by ongoing confusion tied to sharing the same acronym as an FBS football conference established decades earlier. The length of the Conference’s full name also presented challenges in creating a more recognizable and distinct brand. The brand repositioning initiative was launched to establish a clearer and more modern identity that reflects the Conference’s future while still honoring the tradition and foundation built over the last 45 years.
FEEDBACK & COLLABORATION
With 13 institutions and a 45-year history, the brand repositioning process was intentionally designed to be collaborative and inclusive. Feedback was gathered through a series of testing sessions and strategic discussions involving administrators, coaches, student-athletes, alumni, communications and marketing professionals, fans, and members of the national media to evaluate potential Conference names, logos, and overall brand direction. The process included extensive discussion, evaluation, and refinement to ensure the final identity was thoughtful, strategic, and representative of the Conference as a whole. More than a logo redesign, the initiative was viewed as a long-term positioning effort focused on strengthening the Conference’s national presence, visibility, and overall brand recognition.
THE METRO
On July 1, 2026, the Conference will officially move forward as the “Metro Conference,” establishing a clearer and more recognizable identity while eliminating decades of confusion tied to a shared acronym. The transition from the “MAAC” to the “Metro” strengthens overall brand recognition and consistency across media, digital platforms, championships, recruiting, and national exposure while still respecting the Conference’s history and foundation.
REFINED COLOR PALETTE
The new visual identity simplifies the Conference’s color palette from five colors to two, creating a cleaner and more consistent brand system across digital, broadcast, apparel, and championship applications. While simplifying the palette, the Conference retained its traditional red and blue foundation while updating both colors to bolder, more vibrant shades – Red (185c) and Mid-Range Blue (PMS 288c) – to create a stronger and more modern visual presence.
BOLD SIMPLICITY
Unlike many collegiate rebrands, the process did not begin with a mascot or singular visual element. Instead, the goal was to create a modern and flexible identity capable of representing 13 institutions without becoming tied to one city, market, or region. After 11 rounds of logo exploration, the process consistently pointed toward a cleaner and more streamlined direction centered around typography. Similar to the visual identities utilized by conferences such as the ACC, Big East and Big Ten, the final identity embraces a bold wordmark approach where the typography itself becomes the brand. The simplicity of the mark creates greater consistency, scalability, and long-term flexibility across Conference branding, championship logos, digital platforms, apparel, and broadcast applications.
BUILT FOR THE FUTURE
College athletics continues to evolve rapidly, bringing increased emphasis on visibility, storytelling, and national brand recognition. This rebrand was not simply about introducing a new logo or name, but about creating a stronger and more recognizable identity that reflects where the Conference is headed while still respecting its history and tradition. The new identity provides a cleaner and more modern platform for storytelling across television, digital media, recruiting, championships, and national exposure while helping position the Conference for the future of collegiate athletics.
