Women’s Lacrosse Battles High-Powered Tufts in NESCAC Quarterfinals
Entering their 24th consecutive postseason birth, the seventh seeded Mules saw their NESCAC Tournament run come to an end on Saturday, falling 20-7 to second seeded Tufts in Medford. While the Jumbos jumped out to a dominant early lead, the Mules continued to fight until the final whistle, outscoring Tufts in the fourth quarter.
Tufts established control immediately, using an 8-0 first-quarter surge to put the Mules on their heels. Despite the early deficit, Colby’s resilience was on full display in the second half. Joselyn Silva anchored the attack with two goals, while Charlotte Michener, Julia Maimonis, Emma Greene, Christina Long, and Emily Counihan each found the back of the net. The highlight of the afternoon was a late-game offensive burst, where the Mules outscored the high-powered Jumbos 4-3 in the final 15 minutes.
While the loss marks the end of their conference championship run, Colby finishes the season with a 9-7 record and plenty of momentum for a bright 2027 season.
Kinsley, Carlson Lead Colby at NESCAC Event
With the heavy lifting in the golf schedule taking place in the fall, the NESCAC welcomed their spring finale at Trinity College this weekend for the conference championship.
Johnny Kinsley led the Mules finishing 23rd in the 50-person field. His best round came on day 2 when he shot +5. Owen Carlson (headline photo) landed in 29th, shooting +6 on days 1 and 3. As a team Colby finished 10th.
Nick Smith of Williams took home top honors, finishing even across 54 holes.
Men’s Sweep and Women’s Grit Highlight Thrilling President’s Cup
Colby Crew took to the Androscoggin River on Sunday for the 28th annual President's Cup against Maine rivals Bates and Bowdoin. The Colby Men delivered an outstanding performance, going 5-for-5 on the day to sweep the CBB competition. Meanwhile, the Colby Women showed tremendous poise, out-rowing Bowdoin in three of four races and pushing Bates to the limit.
The men's team dominated the water in Greene, headlined by a thrilling 1V8 victory. After trading the lead with Bates throughout the race, Colby rowed through the Bobcats in the final stretch to win by a razor-thin 0.7-second margin. The 2V8 provided the most dominant win of the day, gapping the field early to finish nine seconds ahead of Bates and nearly 50 seconds ahead of Bowdoin. With additional victories in the 3V8, 4V8, and Varsity Four, the Men’s program enters the postseason with massive momentum.
On the women’s side, Colby showcased the speed necessary for the upcoming championship stretch. The 1V8 boat came off the line hot, leading Bates at the halfway mark before finishing with a strong 7:00.7 - nearly 20 seconds ahead of Bowdoin. The 2V8 and Varsity Four followed suit with convincing second-place finishes, comfortably gapping the Polar Bears. Head Coach Stew Stokes praised the team's progress, noting that the varsity crews went "stroke for stroke" with a highly-ranked Bates squad.
Both programs head to Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. this Saturday for the New England Rowing Championships, marking the start of the championship stretch.
Behind Two More Wins Baseball Sets Up Playoff Matchup with Amherst
Colby took a 9-7 victory in their final non-conference matchup of the regular season, and capped the week with a tightly contested twin bill in Brunswick on Saturday.
Against the Eagles, Colby used four different pitchers and rode multi-hit games from Patrick Shrake, Myles Gythfeldt, and WIll Burns to earn the victory on Wednesday. With the victory, Colby swept the season series with Husson.
Heading into the final NESCAC pairing of the regular season, Colby had already earned a playoff spot due to their sweep of Bates a few weeks back. Bowdoin, on the other hand, needed to take two of three to make it into the tournament.
The Polar Bears took Friday's opener in dramatic fashion in Waterville, and even erased a four-run deficit to take the second game in the series. The Mules showed great resilience in the third game to avoid the sweep, jumping out to a 6-0 lead behind a pair of RBI hits from Tony Silva, another from Gythfeldt, and home runs by Duncan Cullinane and Henry Silva. Kyle Bourque was tremendous in relief, pitching the final four innings to earn his first save of the season.
The Mules will now cross NESCAC divisions (NESCAC East plays NESCAC West for Quarterfinal round) and head to Amherst, Mass. to take on the Mammoths Friday and Saturday in a three-game set.
Softball Runs Win Tally to 23, Two Series Remaining Before Playoffs
On their final road trip of the regular season, the Mules visited the Constitution State for double headers against Wesleyan and Trinity.
The Cardinals jumped out to a six-run lead in game one and held a late Colby rally at bay to take the opener 6-4. In game two, Wesleyan held their momentum for a 5-1 win despite a stellar day with the bat for Carissa Cassidy (headline photo). The senior went 6-8 at the plate across the pair of games, scoring a run in each and driving in three.
Set to right the ship on Sunday against Trinity, Sophia Meade was marvelous in the circle in game one, coming on in the second inning and going the distance with only one hit allowed for her 8th win of the season. The Bantams evened the series with a come-from-behind win in game two. Five different Mules collected a hit as Cassidy ran her hit streak to eight games. She was a menace on the bases as well, swiping six bags across the four games this weekend.
The Mules will have familiar faces awaiting them to close out the regular season. Colby will travel to Bates on Wednesday for a pair before hosting Bowdoin on Saturday for the final series of the regular season. The Mules currently sit in second place in the NESCAC standings.
Mules Secure No. 7 Seed After Gauntlet Week Against Ranked Foes
Men’s Tennis wrapped up the regular season this weekend with a grueling road trip against two top-25 opponents. While the Mules fell 7-0 to both #17 Middlebury and #21 Williams, the team’s competitive play across the ladder earned them the No. 7 seed in the upcoming NESCAC Championship tournament.
The Mules traveled to Middlebury on Saturday, where they pushed the Panthers in several tightly contested flights. Jason Daly led the charge at No. 1 singles, taking his match to a second-set tiebreak (6-3, 7-6). At No. 5, Bilal Asim displayed incredible endurance, narrowly falling 7(7)-6(2), 7-5. On Sunday, the Mules faced a quick turnaround against Williams. Despite the sweep, Colby’s depth remained evident as several Mules forced extended sets against the Ephs' fresh lineup. By finishing the season with four conference wins (6-10 overall), the Mules have officially punched their ticket to the postseason.
The seventh seeded Mules will now travel to Middletown, Conn. (hosted by Wesleyan) to face the two seeded Bowdoin Polar Bears. The quarterfinal match is set for Friday, May 1 at 1:00pm.
Women’s Tennis Pushes Williams to the Brink in Regular Season Finale
Colby concluded a challenging home stretch against three top-20 opponents this week. While the Mules were swept by #17 Bowdoin and #11 Middlebury, they delivered a signature performance on Sunday, taking #19 Williams College to the final match in a narrow 4-3 loss. Colby now enters the NESCAC postseason as the No. 8 seed.
Sunday’s finale against Williams was a showcase of the Mules’ top-flight talent. After the Ephs secured a hard-fought doubles point, Colby roared back in singles play to split the six matches. Jade Finestone was dominant at the No. 1 spot, cruising to a 6-2, 6-3 victory, while Soumya Wijesekera (No. 4) and Tina Barrow (No. 5) both earned critical straight-set wins to keep the Mules in the hunt. The overall match came down to a three-set thriller at No. 3 singles, where Michaela Landry won the opening set 6-2 before Williams eventually rallied to clinch the deciding point.
The No. 8 seeded Mules (7-10 overall record) travel to Middletown, Connecticut, this Friday, May 1, to face top-seeded and #3 in Division III Wesleyan in the NESCAC Quarterfinals.
