BROUGHAL MUSIC BLAST #1 2024-2025

Welcome to the the 2024-2025 Broughal Music Blast! We're back! We hope everyone had a great first week of school! Broughal Music has a lot planned throughout the school year, and we hope you'll join us on this journey! This edition of the Blast features information about our Mandatory Meeting, upcoming fundraisers, and next week's lessons and rehearsals. Our first early-morning rehearsal is on Tuesday, 9/5, at 7 AM, for Orchestra. Welcome back to school, everyone! Go Rockets! Please note that the Broughal Music Blast will be sent out every weekend, detailing the rehearsal schedule, upcoming events, and important announcements.

Mandatory Music Meeting - Thursday, 9/5, 7:15 PM

Our first music meeting for the 2024-2025 school year will be our Mandatory Music Meeting! This meeting will take place at the end of Back to School Night, on Thursday, September 5th, at 7:15 PM, in Broughal's Auditorium! We will discuss important information for Broughal Music this year, including fundraisers, performances, trips, and rules & expectations.

Patriot Day Ceremony - Wednesday, 9/11, 8:30 AM

On Wednesday, 9/11, students in Band, Majorettes, and Honor Guard will perform for Broughal's Patriot Day Ceremony. This is an important event in which we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001. This event will take place during the school day. Students should bring their instruments, music, and equipment to school. Additionally, they should wear Broughal gear or blue and gold clothing. Instrumental Music Lessons Begin

Lessons will begin on Tuesday, September 3. All instrumental music students should have received their first lesson assignments earlier this week, during homeroom. Please note that all lessons take place during the students' Related Arts periods. Early-Morning Rehearsals Begin

Early-morning rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, September 3. Tuesdays are reserved for Orchestra. Students should report to the main entrance on Morton Street as early as 6:55 AM but no later than 7:05 AM, on their assigned rehearsal day, based on the following rehearsal schedule:

  • MONDAYS: Jazz Band
  • TUESDAYS: Orchestra
  • WEDNESDAYS: Band, Majorettes, Honor Guard
  • THURSDAYS: Orchestra
  • FRIDAYS: Band, Majorettes, Honor Guard

Southside Singers Rehearsals Begin

Southside Singers rehearsals start on Tuesday, 9/3! Rehearsals will occur in the Chorus Room, during Homeroom, from 8 AM to 8:25 AM, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Students can sign up for Southside Singers using the Google Form link. You also can access this Google Form on Schoology, on the announcements page. Students MUST sign up again, even if they were in Southside Singers last year.

We welcome all students who love singing, regardless of musical experience or whether or not they believe they have a "good voice." If you have any questions, please contact Miss Putlock (aputlock@basdschools.org).

Handbook Forms Due - Tuesday, 10/1

Like past years, we will be using Google Forms to collect your responses for your Handbook Forms. CLICK HERE to access and complete your forms. If you need paper copies of the Handbook Forms, please contact one of the Directors. All electronic and paper Handbook Forms are due by Tuesday, 10/1. Don't forget to fill out the paper BASD Medical Form (English | Español) in addition to the electronic forms!

Volunteers Needed

One of the most helpful ways to assist Broughal Music is by volunteering! Depending on the event, you'll be assisting and supporting students and directors so that EVERYONE can have a successful, stress-free performance/event! If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Mr. Stoltz (astoltz@basdschools.org) as soon as possible and let him know which of the following events you would like to volunteer for:

  • By Fri, 10/4: Uniform Fitting - during early-morning (7-8 AM) or during school
  • Wed, 10/16: Broughal-Northeast Game
  • Sat, 10/19: Picture Day (Band, Maj, HG) & Nazareth Halloween Parade
  • Sun, 10/20: Hellertown Halloween Parade
  • Sat, 10/26: Freedom-Liberty Game
  • Sun, 10/27: Bethlehem Halloween Parade
  • Mon, 11/11: Veterans Day Ceremony

Please note that adult volunteers must have active clearances on file with the Broughal Music Department BEFORE volunteering. Additionally, community service students are limited to students currently attending Liberty High School or Freedom High School. If you have any questions, please contact one of the Directors.

Gertrude Hawk Candy Fundraiser

Our first fundraiser starts on Thursday, 9/5. Check out the following details for more information on our first and one of our most popular fundraisers:

  • Boxes of candy will be available for pick-up on Thursday, 9/5. Students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian when signing out boxes of candy.
  • There are 48 bars in each candy box. Each candy bar costs $2. Students should return $96 to the BMPO. All money and orders are due on Thursday, 9/26.
  • For each box sold, students earn $40 towards their Broughal Music account.

BROADWAY TRIP - Back to the Future: The Musical

On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, the Broughal Music Department will see Back to the Future: The Musical on Broadway, at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City! While in NYC, the students also will eat at the Hard Rock Café. The cost of this trip is $170.00 per person. Because there are a limited number of tickets available, this event is offered to 7th and 8th grade students and chaperones/tag-alongs first. Any remaining tickets will be available to 6th grade students and chaperones/tag-alongs on Thursday, September 12, 2024. To reserve your ticket, students must submit an $85 non-refundable deposit and signed permission slip. Please review the following dates and link for more information. $50 Fair Share Due Thursday, 9/26

The $50 Fair Share is due on Thursday, 9/26. We use this money to purchase music, supplies, clothing, food, and beverages. We also use these funds to pay for transportation, field trips, and various items and events throughout the school year. If you have any questions, please contact the directors as soon as possible.

Broughal Music has created the following Student Fundraiser Plan and Monthly Payment Plan to help students and families pay for trips and Fair Share. Please note that these plans are optional. If you have any questions, please contact one of the Directors.

Student Account Information

Want to know how much money is in your child's account and how much money you owe for Fair Share, the Broadway Trip, and the Spring Trip? Check out the Broughal Music website or the following button/link. The document is organized by Student ID number, so make sure you have the ID number ready. If you cannot find your child's ID number, please contact Mr. Stoltz (astoltz@basdschools.org).

Do you know when your next lesson is? Have you been practicing your instrument? Check the Lesson Schedule regularly so that you are prepared for your next lesson. Remember, you need to attend 17 lessons per instrument in order to attend the Spring Trip!
