The WEST Project Welcome to the WEST Project – a transformative strength training program designed to empower survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse. The WEST Project fosters a safe and inclusive environment where survivors can rebuild their strength, regain their confidence, and find comfort in a community of understanding individuals.

What is the WEST Project?

The WEST Project is a fitness program for women who are ready to build their physical strength and unlock their full potential. The program combines strength training with an emphasis on empowerment, helping participants gain the physical power to feel confident, capable and in control.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help survivors build their strength and self-confidence through fitness and lifting. By focusing on strength training, we equip participants with the tools they need to transform their bodies, boost their energy, and build resilience. The WEST Project is not just about physical strength – it’s about empowering individuals to take charge of their health, their fitness, and their future.

How it works

The WEST Project is open to victim-survivors of intimate partner violence who are ready to unlock confidence and build physical strength. Whether you're new to fitness or have experience in strength training, the program is tailored to meet you at your level and help you progress toward your goals.

Our Team

“Tuesday and Thursday became my favourite day of the week because I come out of that feeling just really physically strong, just lifted something heavy, and I'm like, woohoo. I'm tracking my little progress on my chart but also I feel like I can do anything. If I can figure this out, I can figure out other things”

- WEST Project Participant

“I can really see the linkage now in physical strength to mental strength as well, and resilience and how it makes you feel really good about yourself and that you're achieving something. And you do feel proud of your accomplishments from week to week, and you look through your little booklet and think, "Oh wow, look where I started." And yeah, I think that it's definitely had an impact in terms of my healing and just where I can take it as well. I'm just excited to keep going with it".

- West Project Participant

"I just walked out feeling very different. I felt confident, and just the way I was able to get through a very stressful week. It was the same week my divorce came through, signed. It was a huge week, and I don’t think I could have gotten through that week. It’s like I’m strong, do you know what I mean? I’m stronger than I remember being"
