Key Returners and Newcomers
The Bulldogs return several key players from last year’s team and add 11 newcomers to this year’s squad. On attack, Mariana Miller returns after leading the Bulldogs with 41 goals and 47 points a year ago. The attack also returns the Bulldogs’ leader in assists from last season, Zoe Weber (who finished first on the team with 20 assists and second in points with 39 points in 2024). Maggie Bean returns on attack after contributing 13 goals and 4 assists last season and Addison Kryzyzak also returns to the squad.
The Bulldogs will add some firepower to the attacking end with the addition of freshmen Skylar Donaldson, Ruby Monahan, and Cailey White. The Bulldogs also add a talented transfer to the offensive unit in Madeline Turcotte. Turcotte is a sophomore and earned Second Team All WHAC Conference honors in 2024 after she tallied 52 points (34 goals and 18 assists) and won 98 draw controls during her freshmen season at Concordia Ann Arbor before joining the Bulldogs this fall.
The Bulldogs return three players that spent much of last season in the midfield in Lucia Commare, Sarah Gross, and Taylor Gregan. Commare led the Bulldogs with 73 draw controls last year and tied for the team lead with 45 ground balls. She also contributed 27 goals and 9 assists. Gross returns after a solid freshmen season that saw her score 20 goals, corralled 25 draw controls, and scoop up 45 ground balls. Gregan split time in the midfield and defensive end for the Bulldogs last year picking up 30 ground balls and causing 25 turnovers.
The Bulldogs depth and talent in the midfield will get a boost with the addition of four freshmen in Kacie Woodall, Abby Malone, Kayla McCann, and Alaina Sutermeister. These freshmen shined during fall ball after having outstanding high school careers and are expected to contribute right away.
Defensively
On the defensive side, the Bulldogs return a strong core led by seniors Mey Sun and Olivia Gedman. Sun is the program’s all-time leader in caused turnovers and led the team last year with 36 caused turnovers and added 38 ground balls. Gedman had a breakout junior season that saw her awarded MIAA Defensive Player of the Week honors twice and she caused 34 turnovers and picked up 43 ground balls.
Mya Reyes is a returning starter and picked up 26 ground balls and caused 12 turnovers in her first season as Bulldog in 2024. Jessica Price is a versatile player that picked up 24 ground balls and added three goals in her freshmen campaign and returns in the defensive end, while Abbey VanAssche and Avary Allstead round out the returning defenders.
The Bulldogs add two new faces to the defense this year in Jessica Schmidt and Megan Teremi and both look to provide an immediate impact. Schmidt is a sophomore transfer and had a strong freshmen year at Concordia Ann Arbor, causing 22 turnovers and picking up 33 ground balls while Teremi is coming off of a strong high school career and excellent fall ball with the Bulldogs.
Last season the Adrian defense led the MIAA in caused turnovers with 200 and ground balls with 390.
Thoughts from Head Coach Amanda Asher
Amanda Asher, in her second year as the Bulldogs head coach, sees a lot of promise in this year’s team. “We have a great mix of returning players that have a lot of experience and have been through the battles of conference play and an influx of talented freshmen and transfers this year. The team has been working extremely hard with our goal to continue to fight our way up the conference standings. Nothing will come easy in our league, but we have a great group of women and I’m excited to see what we can do this season.”
