ACCESS TO SCHOOL GROUNDS By now you will be aware that the main Nevin Parade entrance is not accessible for the remainder of 2023 to enable the safe demolition of the existing administration building. The Principal class team can be ‘found’ in the room adjacent to the Art room, whilst the General Office resides in the gymnasium foyer near the STEM room.

SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING The November meeting of School Council is scheduled for next Tuesday night at 7pm in the Art Room. We love to mix things up a bit and especially with venues!!

FOUNDATION 2024 INFORMATION EVENING The Information Night for our 2024 Foundation families is set down for 6.30pm tonight in the gymnasium. As well as detailed information for the start of 2024 being shared, class allocations are announced and the transition program for the remainder of 2023 is fine tuned.

SCHOOL CAPTAINCY It was a pleasure to listen to the speeches of our potential school captains yesterday as they spoke with passion on why they would be the ideal candidate for the positions in 2024. The shortlisting was enabled by the votes of peers, and the shortlisted candidates will be interviewed for the positions by the Grade 5 and 6 teaching team leaders as well as Principal Class members. Our 2024 School Captains will be announced at assembly on Monday, November 20.

WORKING BEE The final working bee for the year will be held on Sunday, November 12 from 9am until 1pm. It will focus largely on the Jilinga Garden area and the grounds surrounding our new Grade 3 and 4 classrooms. Catering will be provided to enable everyone to have a sausage or two to nibble and a cuppa to sip whilst resting after completing a range of tasks set out by the Building and Grounds Committee under the outstanding leadership of Michael Parrent. Really hope to see you there.

STATE ATHLETICS Joshua Cadusch (7th and 7th), Blake Cameron (9th) and Alexandra Palmer (9th) competed with distinction at the State Championships last week at the Melbourne Sports Centre Lakeside Stadium. We are so very proud of their efforts.

REMEMBRANCE DAY We will be holding a short Remembrance Day ceremony tomorrow, November 10 at 10:30am in our school gymnasium in honour of the fallen. We invite community members to join us if at all possible.

I wish everyone a lovely weekend.

Kind regards,

Bill Kersing

Principal

Year 3 Sleepover A great time was had by all last Thursday and Friday during the Grade 3 sleepover. The children returned to school on Thursday afternoon in high spirits and there was great excitement as they set up their sleeping bags in the school gym. The students enjoyed a number of activities and the company of their friends before enjoying dinner and settling down for a movie.

A huge thank you is extended to the Grade 3 teachers– Kylie, Phil, Sarah and Karina for planning this experience and sleeping over with the kids, as well as Chris Andreou for helping with set up, delivering the pizza and preparing the many litres of pancake batter required for Friday’s breakfast. . Georgeina did a marvellous job coordinating the ordering of dinner and lunches for over one hundred people as well as distributing all the fruit and general supplies.

We are incredibly grateful to our wonderful parent helpers who gave up their time to help supervise overnight and those that came along bright and early on Friday morning to prepare and serve a yummy breakfast to feed the masses. We simply cannot hold these events without such support.

Enjoy your week,

Gill

End of Term It is hard to believe that we are only 6 weeks (!) away from the end of Term 4, 2023. With a combination of building works, excursions, end of year events and 2024 grade formation, it is no surprise that emotions are heightened at school (and at home, I bet!). For some this is excitement, for others anxiety.

There will be some ‘wind-down’ time in the last week or so, however, staff will continue to maintain their focus on learning until the end of the year. Student assessment, end of year reports and finalising work will be a high priority.

In Case You Missed It Next week is incredibly busy at Viewbank Primary School. Please see Compass for details.

Remembrance Day - RSL Poppy Appeal - Poppies are now available for purchase from the school office (The Gym Foyer)

Remembrance Day is one of the most important days on our commemorative calendar. It's a day when we acknowledge those who died while serving in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. Remembrance Day is held on 11 November each year. This is the anniversary of the Armistice that ended fighting with Germany in World War I. People in Australia, and many other countries, observe 1 minute's silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month because that's when the Armistice came into effect. It's a time to honour our service personnel who died in service of Australia.

Viewbank Primary School will be selling RSL Poppy Appeal items this year. Poppies are now available for purchase from the school office. Poppies range from $2 to $10.
