Keeping it local A medical centre for one of the biggest practices in the North east

Newbiggin Hall, an estate built for growing families in the 1970s, needed a new medical centre to cope with population growth and to be able to provide the highest quality of service possible for patients of the practice.

Whenever we start a new project, we are always looking for things that we can do which will make a big difference to patients and staff.

With our building for the Saville Medical Group, which is the largest GP practice in the Newcastle-Gateshead CCG, we were able to build a state-of-the-art medical centre just 500 metres from the original building.

That is where we came in to help. We completed a state-of-the-art medical centre close to their old surgery building meaning that we could keep the practice in the community that needs it.

Newcastle City Council were a big help to us for the project and they made the land available as part of the Newbiggin Hall estate redevelopment.

The project is a perfect example of how collaboration is key to creating outstanding spaces for the delivery of primary care in the heart of the communities we want to help.

The new multi-purpose building will operate as a hub for the Saville Medical Practice and other local practices in the area meaning that the new medical centre will act as a primary care hub for the community.

It provides 18 new clinical rooms – both consulting and treatment suites, new admin accommodation for the whole practice and dedicated training areas.

We are delighted that our wonderful new building is finally open to the public. Our state-of-the-art premises will provide the service that our patients justly deserve and satisfy the increase in local population. The new site will be a major asset to primary care, providing an uplifting and inspiring environment for our staff.”

Dr Samantha Graham, GP Senior Partner from the Saville Medical Group

The team have delivered another high-quality build for our client, and the end result is fantastic. This will be another stand-out healthcare project to add to our already extensive portfolio of work in this sector, and we look forward to working with our long-term client Assura again in the near future."

Rick Halton, regional director for contractor Tolent who delivered the scheme

This has been a significant project to ensure Saville Medical Group can provide the required levels of care to a growing number of patients in Newcastle. I’m delighted that residents will have access to this fantastic modern facility just a short distance away from the existing site.”

Amanda Senior, head of Fairer Housing at Newcastle City Council

We are delighted that this building can finally open its doors to the public. This is a fantastic new space for patient care and it has taken a lot of work from everyone involved to bring it to completion, especially given that the build ran through several national lockdowns.”
