It has been so good to be back at school this week, even if our Year 11s may not agree since they've had their IGCSE Maths exams. I do hope they've gone well.
And I hope that everybody else has had a successful first week back. One of my highlights has been watching our pupils enjoy the new table tennis tables in the Senior playground, thanks to the wonderful FOLMS. Having heard more this week about their plans for the Christmas Fair on Friday 13th December, I'm looking forward to it more than ever.
Unfortunately, the Cathedral has cancelled our end of term service that was scheduled for the morning of the 13th December. We are still waiting to hear back about whether we can reschedule it (potentially for the afternoon of Wednesday 11th December), and we will update you about that next week.
In the meantime, I would encourage you to contribute to the United Learning Parental Survey that you should have received an email about recently. It went live on Monday and I'd love to hear your views, both in terms of what you value about LMS and also if there is anything that you would like to see us keep developing as we move forward.
Other highlights of the week have included a very positive Year 7 Parents' Evening, our Green Careers Week with guest speakers, and rehearsals for Matilda - please do purchase your tickets via Wisepay if you'd like to attend. I also had to travel to Surrey for a United Learning Conference, where we discussed the latest political developments and threats to our sector. We're fortunate at LMS to have worked our way into a secure position in recent years, and we will of course keep doing all that we can to operate efficiently whilst always seeking to raise the standard of education that we offer.
Thanks for your continued support and have a great weekend.
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to the second half of the Michaelmas term – how is it already November?
I hope that everyone had a fantastic half-term break. It has been a very positive start to the term with lots of enthusiastic children eager to learn and excited about the many events we have to look forward to. Dare I say it, there has even been talk of Nativities and Christmas!
I want to thank Miss Skelton and the Holiday Club team for planning and leading two weeks of wonderful activities over half-term. Whilst I was in school during the holiday, it was great to be greeted by lots of excited children in fancy dress! Both weeks of the holiday were filled with a range of activities and visits including attending the Pumpkin Festival at Rand Farm and Autumn Vibes at Belton House. During their visit to Mablethorpe, the children received high praise from members of the public for their manners and behaviour. Well done everyone!
It has been lovely to welcome so many of you into school to meet with your children’s class or form teacher this week and we look forward to welcoming more of you next term. I hope that you have enjoyed hearing about how your children have settled in and about some of their many achievements. As always, if you do have any worries or concerns regarding any aspect of school, do contact your child’s form teacher in the first instance. Of course, Mrs Whitworth or I are also available.
In assembly this morning, we spent time reflecting on what we are proud of. The children shared some excellent examples of achievements and actions which they are proud of and I am sure they will share these with you over the weekend.
Although we are only in week one of the new term, there has been lots to be proud of for both children and adults. From attitudes and achievements in lessons and clubs to being a caring friend on the playground and praise from visitors in school, the list is endless.
For example, our Cubs spent this week talking about Remembrance and they responded in a respectful and caring manner. They looked at red, black and purple poppies before making impressive stained-glass poppies and sewing their own poppy badges. In the first fixture of the term, our Year 4 tag rugby team showed great determination and teamwork whilst representing school and I know Year 5 and 6 are looking forward to their away fixtures at Tranby in Hull this afternoon.
Next week promises to be another incredibly busy week and I am confident there will be much to celebrate and be proud of. We will start the week with an assembly to launch our Anti-Bullying Week which focuses on the theme ‘Choose Respect’. Alongside our usual lessons, next week, we will spend time reflecting on and celebrating our differences, considering the importance of being respectful and participating in Odd Socks Day. We will also be attending a Remembrance service at the Senior School on Monday morning.
We have individual and sibling photos being taken on Wednesday and raising money for Children in Need on Friday which will include the results of the much-anticipated duck race!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Best wishes,
