Assessing your portfolio

Content Review

Do a content assessment - what might you need to add or subtract to your portfolio? Develop a list of 3-5 things you need to do. Set a goal for today and a deadline to review.

Who is your audience? How can you reach them?

Does your portfolio reflect your skills and your career goals?

Does your home page look professional and engaging? Is it a reflection of you and your skills? Have you linked visual and verbal?

Are your portfolio items well-curated? They should give me a sense of what you can do and who you are.

Have you eliminated phrases like JMC 104 / JMC 300?

Interface / User Experience Review

Is your site easy to navigate? Do I understand how to find your content and can easily determine where to go and get around? (Or is everything dumped in one tab.)

Have you introduced each portfolio item with a brief paragraph explaining the project and what you learned?

Can I get in touch with you?

Getting a portfolio review

By the time you are a junior/senior you need to think about having a portfolio review from someone in your field. This may be a mentor or someone you interned for. This should be someone in the industry. If you can't think of anyone, use networking and LinkedIn connections to help meet someone.

You should share with them what your career goals are and ask them to look at specific parts of your portfolio OR to examine certain aspects. (Don't just send a link and ask what do you think?)
