The West Slope team attended the June Open Day and got the chance to talk to prospective students about some exciting plans, including the first new accommodation rooms and the new Health and Wellbeing Centre.

The Housing team visited the West Slope construction site for the first time in June. With the first new accommodation rooms available from September 2026, the team is busy behind the scenes updating systems and preparing student information, ready to welcome students to West Slope next year.

In May, we displayed artist concept designs for our new public artwork on West Slope. Thanks to everyone who viewed the designs in the Library or online and shared feedback.

Commenting on the role of public art on campus, Dr Joanna Pawlik, Senior Lecturer in Art History and Head of Department for Art History at Sussex, said:

‘Public artworks enrich our surroundings, transform shared spaces, broaden access to art, and spark conversation within communities.

Commissioning this new public artwork is both a reflection and a driver of the University of Sussex's commitment to culture, creativity, and community, and their vital role in our future.’

Here are some of the artist concepts from, in order:

  • Kevin Atherton
  • Chris Drury
  • Kerry Lemon
  • Will Nash
  • Lucy Strachan
