Calm your trollie Weekend Away at McBains

Food, Frolicks, Fires & Fine Company

27 Feb - 1 Mar 2026

Right, so you've booked & paid (well done) and we are so flippen excited to be hosting you this weekend! Here's all the information you need to know for our Calm Your Trollie weekend away!

Friday 27.02

Arrive anytime from 3pm onwards, we will welcome you and help you check in to your accommodation. We will be having a gourmet boerie braai this evening and some light entertainment. This is your chance to settle into the breathtaking scenery, get to know us and unwind around the fire.

Saturday 28.02

Breakfast will be served from 9ish so rise slowly and sweetly and join us on the patio for some coffee. The day has many possibilities and, similar to the burn, this is a choose-your-own-adventure.

We have a yoga class on offer before breakfast (please bring your own mat if you're keen to join). There are plenty hiking and kloofing trails to enjoy in the magnificent Bainskloof, so we encourage you to go out and explore during the day (please remember pack a little snack for your lunch). We will be making fresh bread in the early evening for those interested in a burn-style bread-making workshop.

Dinner this evening will be a variety of potjies and will be made in a lekker fire with some lekker tunes playing in the background. We've got some vinyls, some DJs and some real silly buggers ready to entertain you after dinner. Ooh and don't forget the hottub!

Sunday 01.03

Our last day together will be a grab-and-go style brekkie. As usual we'll serve it from 9ish and from there you can start to pack up and check out at your leisure.

🛒 About The Trollie

The Skollie Trollie is a six-metre-tall wooden monument to modern madness. A bright yellow cathedral of consumption, built to be climbed, played on, and ultimately burned. Crafted from solid structural timber and screws (because capitalism always involves a bit of screwing), it gleams in oxide yellow - a golden idol to everything we buy, need, and discard. Unlike your average shopping cart, this one won’t roll away. It stands still: a stationary spectacle in the desert, inviting Burners to clamber, lounge, and laugh at the absurdity of it all. The Trollie transforms a tool of commodification into a playground of irony and joy. A space for connection rather than consumption. As dusk falls and the flames rise, the Skollie Trollie meets its poetic end - a blaze of anti-commodified liberation. Through play, performance, and fire, it asks: what happens when we stop shopping and start sharing? A reminder that even symbols of capitalism can burn beautifully, leaving nothing behind but laughter, dust and hopefully a new way of seeing value.
