Stones and Bread Our Savior Hawaii Sunday School

Welcome

It's the season the of Lent. For 40 days (plus Sundays), we make our way to the cross of Good Friday and empty grave of Easter. Each Sunday of the season, we'll hear what God's Word says about stones and rocks and what they teach us about Jesus and our need for a Savior.

Today, we meet Jesus in the wilderness where the devil tempts Him to turn stones to bread and discover how God's Word gives us strength to fight temptation.

Scripture

Our story today can be found in Luke 4:1-13.

Talk

What did the devil want Jesus to do? How did Jesus respond to the devil's temptations? How does God's Word help us to make choices? How is God's Word like bread for life?

Engage

Jesus responded to the devil's temptation with God's Word. Memorize a Bible verse to help you when you face temptation. You might start with Proverbs 30: Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

Paint a small stone purple (the color of Lent) to keep in your pocket, backpack, or somewhere you see to remind you that Jesus gives us strength to fight temptations and forgives us when we fail.

Pray

Pray: Dear Jesus, Help us to turn to Your Word when we are tempted to do the wrong thing. Thank you for living a perfect life, forgiving us when we fail, and giving us an example to follow. Amen.
