A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

A key factor in the success of any school system is the strength of the community that surrounds it. Simply put, do families show up? In our district, the answer is a resounding YES! The strength of our schools is built on your support: your willingness to partner with us through complex situations, your selfless commitment of time and talents through PTOs, booster clubs, and school events, and, perhaps most importantly, your belief in and pride for our schools. That belief sets the tone for our students to give their very best each day. Yes, it truly makes all the difference. So, thank you for showing up! Whether you are helping clean up after Bandorama, supporting the many fundraisers across our system, sharing your voice at a Parent Advisory Team meeting, cheering passionately at athletic events, or filling the Performing Arts Center for our middle and high school productions, you show up. And when you do, it matters not only to your own child, but to every student. Your presence sends a powerful message: Our 1Warrior community sees you. We believe in you. We care about you. That message is incredibly powerful. Your impact also extends beyond our students. When you show up, whether to celebrate a hard-earned achievement, offer encouragement during a challenging moment, or simply share a smile, you lift up our staff as well. Your support fuels the energy and momentum that drive our district forward on our continuous improvement journey. So again, thank you. We are deeply grateful for your partnership, your presence, and your unwavering support. Please keep showing up; it is one of the key reasons our schools are among the very best in the state!

Student Survey Results

Recently, we received our student school experience survey results. We administered both a 7- and 18-question survey and are grateful that 2,943 students in grades 2 through 12 completed the 18-question overall school experience survey. We had close to 16,000 responses to the 7-question survey where feedback goes to our 2nd through 12th-grade teaching staff and administrators. Providing our students an opportunity to share their experiences continues to be one of the most high-leverage practices with regards to our continuous improvement efforts.  The district’s 2025-26 overall mean on the 18-question school experience survey is a 4.20 on a 5-point scale. A few notes regarding the district-level benchmark items: The top two rated items were:

  • “I have at least one friend at my school.” (4.70)
  • “Learning is important at my school.” (4.46)

The lowest rated items were:

  • “I set learning goals and track my progress.” (3.79)
  • “Students treat me with respect at this school.” (3.83)

We look forward to this data being used as a reflection of what is working well and potential focus areas moving forward. It is exciting to highlight that all scores represent an increase from our 2024-25 results!

Compass Nomination Information

2026 Compass Nominations are now being accepted! We have been recognizing staff with the Compass Award since 2008. This year, we are excited to align the nomination criteria with our updated Strategic Plan. The Compass allows our system to reinforce and recognize staff who, through their commitments and contributions, ensure that every student is learning, growing, and succeeding. Specifically, the Compass honors staff members who meet designated criteria in the following areas:

  1. Academic Excellence and Life Readiness: The candidate goes above and beyond to ensure students master essential knowledge and skills while also being prepared to thrive beyond the classroom. Learners are provided a strong academic foundation, personal and career skills. Critical thinking, empathy, and engagement are fostered and used to empower students to reach their goals.
  2. Student Wellness and Belonging: The candidate goes above and beyond to ensure students feel safe, supported, and connected. They support a student's emotional well-being while fostering strong relationships and opportunities to connect with students. Actions create a positive environment where every student feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential.
  3. Wellness, Development, and Retention: The candidate goes above and beyond to focus on the well-being of our students and/or staff. They are invested in professional learning, support the wellness of themselves and others, and help to create a culture where others feel valued and engaged.
  4. Operational Sustainability & Strong Family and Community Connections: The candidate goes above and beyond to allow our district to be forward-thinking and community-focused. A focus on sustainable and innovative operations with staff and/or students allows the system to maximize resources which support student learning, establish partnerships with families, and engagement in the community.

School Safety

Please know that Muskego-Norway Schools have safety plans and practices in place to prepare our school community for a crisis. Safety efforts and procedures include:

  • Three (3) Muskego Police Officers serving as School Resource Officers in our buildings. We lead Waukesha County and all rural school districts in southeast Wisconsin when it comes to staffing police in our schools.
  • District and school-level Emergency Response Teams meet regularly with the Muskego Police Department.
  • All external doors are locked during school hours, with supervised main entrances at all of our buildings.
  • Visitor entry is permitted only with official identification.
  • Annually, MNSD conducts all state-mandated drills, including two "lockdown" drills.
  • Background checks are required for volunteers and staff members to enter our schools and work with students.
  • Students who leave the learning environment during school hours and return are required to check in through the front office.
  • We know that schools are safest when students, staff, and families work together to reduce violence and address potential safety issues. We are asking that you continue to monitor your child’s and others’ online and social media activity and report any school safety concerns to law enforcement and school officials immediately. We are grateful for your partnership as we work to research and implement the most up-to-date procedures in protecting our students and staff from dangers in a crisis, as well as disseminate to staff at all buildings our safety procedures and protocols to follow.

Guest Teacher

Muskego-Norway Schools is always looking for individuals who are interested in becoming guest teachers and in our system. This is a great opportunity to become more involved in your students’ schooling as well as have a flexible work schedule. If you are interested or know of someone who may be interested in this opportunity, please complete the interest form with Kelly Education linked HERE.

Threats are Taken Seriously

Please remember that if you or your children see or hear something suspicious, you should immediately report it to an administrator, a School Resource Officer, or call the local police department. We are committed to ensuring a safe learning environment for our students, and we are fortunate to have strong partnerships with you, our parents/guardians, in our district. With threats occurring more often in school districts, it is important that we take a moment to lean on this partnership and ask you to have a conversation with your children regarding the serious implications of making a threat to a school. Such behavior may have a lasting impact on a child’s education and future. The impact on the entire family is profound. Rather than waiting, we are asking you to personally discuss this issue with your children now. Whether a student perceives making a threat as a joke or “not a big deal”, making a threat toward a school could result in suspension, expulsion, and/or being charged as an adult with a felony. According to State of WI statute 947.015: “Whoever intentionally conveys or causes to be conveyed any threat or false information, knowing such to be false, concerning an attempt or alleged attempt being made or to be made to destroy any property by the means of explosives is guilty of a Class I felony.”  We continue to encourage our students and school community to report through Speak Up, Speak Out (SUSO) anything that could constitute a threat to school safety. As always, we work closely with local law enforcement to assist in these situations. Thank you for taking a moment to have this discussion with your children.
