STATE SOFTBALL GRAND FINALS The Victorian State Softball Championships were held at Waverley Softball Centre, Jells Road and Waverley Road, Wheelers Hill on Monday 24th of November 2025. Our two teams, girls and boys, played off in the State Grand Final with the boys coming out on top and the girls playing so very well to come runners up. So very proud of all the players and coaches Darren Peters and Chris Macey along with the support crew of parents. An outstanding effort.

CAROLS NIGHT The Carols Night is scheduled for tomorrow night, Friday, November 28 commencing at 5.30pm. Whilst the forecast is not looking the best, we will make the decision to go ahead or not by 11am tomorrow and this will be communicated via Compass and to our students as well. Fingers crossed that the weather gods shine upon us.

STOMP DANCE SHOWCASE The final week of Stomp Dance classes will be a showcase performed by our students at their ‘normal’ time in the gymnasium. FOUNDATION TRANSITION PROGRAM – SESSION #2 The second and final transition morning for our 2026 Foundation students is scheduled for next Wednesday, December 3. Can’t believe we have just three weeks to go to see out the 2025 school year!

Kind regards, Bill Kersing

Thank you to all the amazing parents, caregivers, and friends who have generously offered their time and support in numerous ways throughout the school year. Our school simply wouldn’t be the same without your help! Smile Squad six month fluoride varnish visit The Holstep Health Smile Squad team are back to our school for the next 2 weeks to complete six-monthly fluoride varnish applications for those students who have provided consent. Fluoride varnish applications help make sure students have the best chance of preventing tooth decay, so we’re excited Smile Squad are coming back. Consent for this application was provided when students returned their initial consent forms. However, if anyone has changed their mind and do not wish to receive a fluoride varnish application, please contact the team directly at www.holstephealth.org.au or by calling 9450 2000. Fingers crossed for fine weather on Friday for our school Christmas Carols evening. Have a great week. Gill

Softball State Final On Monday morning, the girls and boys softball teams met at VPS, bright and early at 7:50am for the trek out to Waverley Softball Centre for the State Finals. After the warm up and briefing, our first games began at 10:00am. Our girls won each of their pool matches strongly with several of the team clubbing home runs and stealing extra bases, securing their place in the State Final full of confidence. For the boys, the first two matches were easily won, however the third pool match was against the 2024 Softball State Champions, Manifold Heights and the game lived up to expectation – after the third and final innings, scores were locked at 15-15 and a tie breaker was required. Silence hung over the field as Manifold Heights scored 3 runs, a total that we hoped to surpass – however they fielded superbly and even the tie breaker could not separate the teams, scores locked at 3-3! The match was called a draw by the officials and via percentage, VPS joined the girls in qualifying for the State Final as well. It was an exciting moment when the girls and boys joined together in front of the pavilion to discover we had both made the decider. The girls were certainly up against a tough opponent, Bass Valley PS who had won the previous two State Championships, but they were certainly up for the challenge. Our girls fought strongly, fielded superbly and ran with all of their might, however BVPS was just that little bit better on the day and completed a historic three-peat for themselves; but the smiles never ran from the faces of our champion girls team and whilst of course a little disappointed, they had rightfully earnt the title of State Finals Runners Up and anointed as the 2nd best team in all of Victoria! The boys, almost having missed the final via a tie-breaker were not going to let that happen again in their State Final. Rangeview Primary School were fancied as they had survived what was arguably the tougher pool, and they also had two Victorian Softball Team players in their squad – however, so did VPS in Will and Joachim who had represented our state at nationals in the previous week, so I was expecting an arm wrestle of the ages for the title between our schools. However, that was not to be! In a near flawless display of fielding by VPS, we restricted Rangeview to 5, 2 and 3 runs in their innings, holding every catch and making several double-plays (two out in one go, such as catching the ball for an out and then throwing to base to get another runner out). In what was probably the deciding moment, Angad took two catches in two balls at centre field, then completed double plays on each of those catches as well, throwing to Will at 2nd base and in the next play, throwing to Blake at 3rd who then threw to Alex at home to get 4 batters out in just two pitches. With Viewbank scoring 7, 7 and 5 runs in their respective innings, our boys went on to win Viewbank’s first State Championship in any sport since Ms Carr lead the Boys Bat Tennis Team to glory at the 2007 State Championships! It was a magical moment at the completion of the presentation ceremony when both our girls and boys teams came together to celebrate what we had achieved. There was plenty of cheers and celebration, not to mention photos with grins from ear to ear from both students and parents alike! It was a beautiful moment when our teams came together, all wearing their medallions and holding aloft the blue and red State Finals pennants. As a PE teacher, it is a moment I will certainly always cherish. Considering that 20 of the 21 VPS students on the day had never played softball/baseball before the start of this year, it is a remarkable feat that our teams placed 1st and 2nd on the biggest stage. Finally, my warmest gratitude to Chris Macey who coached our girls team. His decades of experience in baseball, himself a Victorian player in the past, was invaluable to both our girls and boys team during practice, whilst leading our girls at the District, Region and State level; I even learnt a few new tricks as well!! Thanks Chris, and I am so glad that you could create such wonderful memories with not only the girls squad, but your daughter Bella as well. Additionally, thanks to all of the parents that volunteered their time to drive our students to the final (and cheer throughout the day!) for without your help we could not participate in such events! Darren Peters PE and Sports Coordinator
