On Friday 3rd October 2014, the GPs of Carragwen Surgery began working from these purpose-built premises serving more than 6,000 patients.
Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site just 14 years earlier for its industrial landscape, the town had been in need of a modern surgery building to make space for a broader range of primary care services such as minor operations, physiotherapy, health education, training and a nurse practitioner.
With funding from Welsh Government and Assura, the primary resource centre was the solution.
A community hub in every sense of the word, the centre also accommodates orthotics and podiatry, dentistry, an opticians and information points for local police and the county borough council.
"The new facilities will enable us to deliver an advanced level of primary care and help us to go above and beyond in our work with patients, so the primary resource centre is great news for Blaenavon." Dr Wayne Lewis
