Being a hardcore band close to home, there was absolutely no way I could let this one slide. Self proclaiming their fan base to come from Hatebreed, Soulfly and Terror, Severed Illusions are heavily focused on their vocals being the forefront of their music in their earlier bits. I Between grungy clean and gutturals, tracks such as ‘I’m Sick’ and ‘Sink or Swim’ sound too similar to tell apart. However, their most recent track dated from April of last year, ‘Far Too Long’ is a game changer, incorporating various styles as well as putting more emphasis on those fast, heavy drums and distorted guitar. The subtlety of the bass gives it their music more depth, and ‘Far Too Long’ is easily the real kickstart to their career as band. It feels far more polished and balanced, giving some real life to their talents. The same goes for ‘Everything Everyone’ released January 2021 where the tones of melodic metal mixed with some funky bass lines changes the entire attitude, giving it that much needed pugnacious spirit associated with hardcore metal. Following those releases, Severed Illusions will be an exciting band to follow if they continue exploring their current musical foundation. There’s a lot of great talent in their most recent 2 tracks that can be taken advantage of.- Jess Morgan On The House Records - Link to review can be found here - https://www.onthehousemusic.co.uk/artist/severed-illusions/#comment-744
Hardcore is a genre that has many faces, those on the outskirts hear screaming guttural vocals and heavy instruments and that’s that. But as an avid hardcore fan, I can really hear the metal influence in Severed Illusions music that really adds a thick dark tone to their already rib-crushing sound, giving them a fresh edge against my usual dose of hardcore. Amplified by double-kick powered drums, deep-stomach powered growls and groovy riffs, Severeved Illusions are proof that hard work pays off. After almost 10 years in the game they’ve developed a unique blend of modern hardcore that utilizes metal technicality and interesting time signatures, complimented with a bravado-driven intensity that feels like a traditional hardcore outfit. Top stuff guys, it’s not particularly my lane, but it’s a damn good lane nonetheless. - Marcus Osborne On the House Records - Link to the review can be found here - https://www.onthehousemusic.co.uk/artist/severed-illusions/#comment-744
A metal band with two dedicated vocalists is a fairly rare phenomenon but that’s the case with Trowbridge band Severed Illusions. The quintet offer up a hard-hitting, fast-paced, grinding hardcore sound that they describe as “energetic, aggressive and loud,” which immediately had us intrigued. - Rob - Gigrader.co.uk Full review can be found on the following link https://gigradar.co.uk/2021/03/17/introducing-severedillusions/

Far Too Long Review - This is a brilliant hardcore song by Severed Illusions, that expertly mixes in influences of American metal, and nu-metal. First listen through I couldn't stop switching from smiling to "metal face" while happily banging my head into oblivion. This track is masterful and instantly imprints into your mind, with it's powerful hook. Vocals that seamlessly transition, from anger, to groove. Proves that Severed Illusions is here to stay, with the use of dual vocalists this song is driving, and dynamic, engaging all your senses, and they've clearly started swinging with the heavy weights. Rhythmically this song is a beast, and like a shot gun blast sits you in your seat and exclaims "hold on for the ride". This track is clear to be a fan favourite, with the majority of fans sure to be screaming in anthem style chorus. Its grooving chugging breakdown will have you greasing out while moving to this track, and is transitioned effortlessly into the outro, which had me ready for fisticuffs, with the hope that the track will play on repeat, for the remainder of the evening. This beautiful concoction of music should be the next treat for your earholes. Much love boys Keep making killer music I'll be checking you guys out for life. - Norm Mathers - Out of the Norm reviews
Severed Illusions are a blessing on the ears, one of the most impressive and engaging bands I’ve heard in a long time. My advice, put them in on rotation immediately. - Nicky Clifford, Radio Northwich.
“Severed illusions is a fiercely brutal, talented and down to earth band. They bring a high energy in their music that also comes out in their live performance. It takes a lot of dedication to make it in the music industry , and these guys have what it takes, from insanely skilled musicianship, to a genuine understanding of the modern day industry. These guys are a talent that should not be slept on.” - Robb O’Day 3N1GMA Media/ The Greasiest of all Time
