Maria Ferguson's Course on digital marketing fundamentals provided a comprehensive understanding of various aspects of digital marketing, from SEO to portfolio building. The Course was designed to help students gain hands-on experience and practical knowledge in digital marketing. Through various assignments and projects, students explored different programs and tools essential for digital marketing, such as research, web building, SEO, conversion strategies, and email/social media strategist.

One of the highlights of the Course was the final Assignment, where students were tasked with building a website and creating a portfolio. This Assignment allowed students to explore web design platforms and showcase their creativity and skills. However, writing the marketing research paper was challenging, especially when it came to including the audience's needs in retargeting. Through this experience, students learned the importance of regrouping and revising their work to ensure that it met the audience's needs and Professionalism.

Overall, this Course was an excellent appetizer for what students can expect from the DMKMS program's following courses. It provided a solid foundation for students to build upon and gave them the necessary tools to create a digital marketing plan. The marketing research paper assignment was just the beginning step toward the program's final project, and students can expect to gain more advanced knowledge and skills in digital marketing.

On a Personal Level, My favorite part of the Course was the last Assignment; I enjoy building websites. I explored different platforms or web design while creating a portfolio during this class. The most challenging part of the Course was ensuring that when writing the marketing research paper, the audience needed to be included when writing the Start of my DMP. Clarity of the Assignment gained from that experience helped me regroup and made me go back to the Assignment and add on. The marketing research Paper assignment was the beginning step to creating a DMP for the program's final project.

Course reflection

This course was an eye-opener for me, as it taught me about the importance of storytelling and branding in building a successful company.

The course started by defining the concept of branding and how it differs from marketing. It then went on to explain how storytelling can be used as a tool for branding. I learned that storytelling is a powerful way to connect with customers and build a brand identity that resonates with them.

Throughout the course, we studied various case studies of successful brands that have used storytelling to their advantage. We analyzed the elements that make a good brand story and how to incorporate them into our own branding efforts. We also learned about the different types of brand stories, such as origin stories, customer stories, and product stories.

We were taught that a consistent brand message across all channels is crucial for building trust and loyalty with customers. We studied the different components of a brand, such as logos, colors, and taglines, and how they should be used consistently across all marketing efforts.

The concept of making a strong first impression, as explored in "Making a First Impression: The Anatomy of a Perfect Landing Page," resonated deeply with me. The LinkedIn videos on persona creation allowed me to see firsthand how understanding the needs and behaviors of users is crucial in designing user-centric websites. Applying this knowledge to the case study of Shop Swank gave me a practical perspective on analyzing website changes over time and identifying areas for improvement in usability. Week after week, I eagerly dived into topics like usability testing, task analysis, and mobile design. I realized the importance of putting myself in the shoes of the users and anticipating their tasks and expectations. Through lively discussions, I gained insights into user behavior on major company websites and honed my ability to theorize how they would accomplish tasks. One of the most eye-opening moments came when we explored the concept of findability, combining SEO, usability, and information architecture. Evaluating my own website's navigation made me acutely aware of the need to provide seamless access to information. As the course progressed, I delved into studying usability data, quality content, and SEO best practices.
