Valentine Invitational and Field & Track Meet

On Friday, February 9th and Saturday, February 10th, the Mammoths competed at the Valentine Invitational and on Saturday, February 10th, the Mammoths competed at the Field & Track meet as well. Some highlights include another School Record for Casie Eifrig in the 400, the Women’s Distance Medley Relay running a time of 11:43, which is Second All-Time at Amherst, Stan Craig running the 5th best time at Amherst All-Time in the 3k with a time of 8:23, Héloïse Hughes running the 3rd best time in Amherst history in the 200 with a time of 25.33 seconds, Christa Prastertsinah ran the second best time in Amherst history in the 400 with a time of 57.60 seconds and Anaya Thomas won three events at the Field & Track Meet!

Valentine Invitational - Day 1

60 Hurdles

The action kicked off on Friday at the Valentine Invitational with mainly Women’s events and the first of the day was the 60 Hurdles, where Eliza Cardwell qualified for the final by running a time of 8.85 in the prelims. In the final, Eliza ran her second-best time ever, running a time of 8.78 seconds!

In a different section of the 60 Hurdles, Arissa Grace McGowan placed third in a time of 9.16 seconds, just a hundredth of a second off her personal best in the event! Anastasia Ioppolo placed ninth, running a time of 9.59 seconds.

60 Dash

In the 60 Dash, Héloïse Hughes won her heat and placed eighth overall, running a personal best time of 7.92 seconds! Rachel Hubley placed second in her heat in a time of 8.20 seconds!

800

Next on the track was the 800, where Zoë Marcus ran a season best time of 2:15 in the 800, placing eighth in her heat! Piper Lentz won her heat of the 800, using a great kick in the final lap of the race to win in a personal best time of 2:17! Ava Zielinski used a strong final lap to place third in the same heat in a time of 2:19, a season best time! Bella Lozier competed in the same heat and placed seventh in a time of 2:21!

Casie Eifrig moved from fourth place to first place in the final lap of her race to win her heat in a School Record time of 57.40 seconds, breaking her own record that she set just two weeks ago! Just a few heats later, Christa Prasertsintanah won her heat in a personal best time of 57.61 seconds as she sprinted away from the competition in her heat to win! Christa’s time is now second All-Time at Amherst in the event and would have been a School Record just two weeks ago, demonstrating the history that both Casie and Christa are making! Camilla Lash placed second in her heat and ran a season best time of 1:00! Mads Rabb won her heat with a great kick in the final 100 meters of the race to win in a season best time of 1:00! Halle Hannah placed fifth in her heat, running a time 1:03, Paige Clark placed fifth in her heat, running a time of 1:03 as well, Artis Phillips placed fourth in her heat in a season best time of 1:04 and Chanelle Jaeger won her heat in a time of 1:05!

After running a stellar race in the 60, Héloïse Hughes came back and ran a fantastic race in the 200, placing fourth in her heat in a time of 25.33 seconds, which is Third All-Time at Amherst in the event! Rachel Hubley ran her second event of the day in the 200 as well, placing third in her heat in a x time of 26.83 seconds! Arissa placed fifth in her heat, in her second event of the day as well, running her first 200 of the season in a time of 28.06 seconds.

4 x 400 Relay

Mads Rabb led off the the Women’s 4x400 after winning her heat of the 400, putting the Mammoths in fourth place, running a strong first leg! She passed the baton to Paige Clark for the second leg, who kept the Mammoths in fourth place and ran a speedy leg! Paige passed the baton to Ava, who ran a season best time in the 800 earlier in the day. Ava ran a fantastic leg and kept the Mammoths in fourth place. Christa Prasertsintanah anchored the Mammoth and ran a stellar anchor leg, moving the Mammoths into third place in the heat and across the finish line in a time of 4:00, the team’s second best time this season!

Distance Medley Relay

Next on the track was the only Men’s event of the day, the Men’s Distance Medley Relay. Parker Boyle led off for the Mammoths, handing off in 6th place, running a strong 1200 leg! He passed the baton to Tom Ye for the 400 leg, who ran a strong leg to hand off to Josh Thomas in fifth place for the 800 leg! Josh ran a smart 800 leg, finding himself not close to competition and passed off to Stan Craig in sixth place place. Stan ran a stellar anchor leg, moving up gradually in the field and anchored the Mammoths with a 4:12 split to finish in a time of 10:08 to place fifth in their heat! With only Tom not a first year, the future is bright for the Men’s Distance Medley Relay!

Mile

The final event of the night was the mile, where Julia Schor competed in a deep heat and placed ninth in her heat in a personal best time of 4:57!

Valentine Invitational - Day 2

3,000

Stan Craig (17)

On Saturday, the first event of the day at the Valentine Invitational was the 3,000, where Stan Craig ran another strong race, placing seventh in his heat in a 14 second personal best, running a time of 8:23! With that time, Stan is now 5th All-Time at Amherst in the event! In the following heat of the 3k, Henry Dennen ran a great first 3,000 of the season, placing seventh in his heat and running a time of 8:25!

60 Meter Dash

In the 60, Cody Pierce placed second in his heat in a personal best time of 7.12 seconds! Alex Nichols also competed well, placing fourth in his heat with a time of 7.10 seconds! Theo Woodward placed fourth in his heat, running a time of 7.39 seconds.

800

Next on the track was the 800, where Ben Davis placed third in his heat in a season best time of 1:54! Kolya Markov-Riss placed sixth in a tight heat in a season best time of 1:54! Parker Boyle ran a fantastic first 800 of the season, seizing the lead with a little more than one lap to go of the race and he never relinquished it, winning his heat in a personal best time of 1:54! Will Nagy placed used a strong kick in the final lap to place third in his heat in a season best time of 1:55! Josh Thomas went from last pace after the first lap to first place at the finish line, as he gradually moved up in the field as the race progressed and used a speedy final lap of the race to win his heat in a personal best time of 1:56!

In the 400, Tom Ye placed fourth in his heat in a season best time of 52.22 seconds!

Distance Medley Relay

Next on the track was the only women’s race of the day, the Women’s Distance Medley Relay. Zoë Marcus led off for the Mammoths, positioning herself with the lead pack from the fun as she ran a stellar 1200 leg to hand off in fourth place! Casie Eifrig got the baton from Zoë in a crowded exchange zone and ran smart in the first lap of her 400 leg as she was surrounded by many competitors. On the second lap, Casie distanced herself from competition and handed off to Piper Lentz in the lead in another crowded exchange zone!

Piper ran the 800 leg and got out hard and competed well with the competition around her, handing off to Julia Schor in fourth place after running a personal best on her 800 leg! Julia pushed the pace immediately, challenging her competitors to go with her. As Julia held her pace, some competitors fell behind and another caught up. Julia ran patiently in second place in the middle laps and then with three laps to go, Julia took the lead, continuing to push the pace all the way to the finish line, bringing the Mammoths across the finish line in a stellar time of 11:43 in a narrow second place finish! Their time is 2nd All-Time at Amherst in the event!

Long Jump

Adrian Friedman placed sixth in the Long Jump with a season best jump of 6.70 meters (21' 11.75")! Yeob Kim placed 12th, jumping 6.46 meters (21' 2.5")!

In the 200, Cody Pierce won his heat in a great time of 22.11 seconds! Ben Bell placed third in his heat in a time of 23.09 seconds and Theo Woodward won his heat in a time of 23.62 seconds!

Ian Dopp ran a strong race in the 1,000 meters, placing tenth in his heat in a personal best time of 2:31!

Weight Throw

Charlie Spurrell competed in the Weight Throw and placed fourteenth in a deep field with a best throw of 15.69 meter (51’ 5”)!

At the Field and Track Meet, the Field events kicked off the day. The Men’s Weight Throw was a successful event, as David Brown placed second with a throw of 16.03 meters (52’ 7.25”). Hugh Lemmon-Kishi placed fifth with a throw of 13.53 meters (44’ 4.75”), Jacob Shine placed eighth with a personal best throw of 12.94 meters (42’ 5.5”) and Alex MacDonald placed thirteenth with a throw of 9.97 meters (32’ 8.5”).

Beth Martin placed sixth in the Weight Throw with a throw of 12.27 meters (40' 3.25") and Emma Ramsingh placed seventh with a personal best throw of 11.94 meters (39' 2.25")! Deb Thayer placed 13th with a throw of 10.00 meters (32' 9.75") and Isabella Niemi placed 18th with a throw of 7.72 meter (25' 4").

Pole Vault

Mia Bawendi won the Pole Vault, clearing 3.55 meters (11’ 7.75”) on her third attempt at the height and took three strong attempts at breaking her School Record height. Payton Sorensen placed third, clearing 3.10 meters (10’ 2”) and Jordan Hecker placed fourth and cleared the same height. Bridget Cassata placed fifth, clearing 2.95 meters (9’ 8”)!

In the Pole Vault, Alec Kuzyk placed third, clearing 4.25 meters (13’ 11.25”) on his second attempt at the height. Alex Robin placed fourth, clearing 3.95 meters (12’ 11.5”) and Santi Benbow placed eighth and tied his personal best in the event, clearing 3.20 meters (10’ 6”).

Shot Put

In the Women’s Shot Put, Emma Ramsingh placed fifth with a throw of 10.89 meters (35’8.75”)! Beth Martin placed eighth with a throw of 10.11 meters (33’ 2”), and Morgan Rome, Isabella Niemi, Deb Thayer and Zoe Mulvihill placed placed 14th , 15th, 16th and 17th with a throws of 9.35 meters (30’ 8.25”), 9.32 meters (30’ 7”), 9.30 meters (30’ 6.25”) for both Deb and Zoe, respectively.

In the Men’s Shot Put, David Brown won, employing his right hand to propel himself to the win with a season best of 13.87 meters (45’ 6.25”)! Jacob Shine placed third with a personal best throw of 13.64 meters (44’ 9”)! Hugh Lemmon-Kishi placed fifth with a throw of 12.49 meters (40’ 11.75”) and Santi Benbow placed 27th with a throw of 7.24 meters (23’ 9”).

5,000

Running her first 5k on a track, Daphne Witherell ran a patient race, working with her teammates and used a speedy last mile of the race to place second in a time of 18:24! Allison Lounsbury ran a smart race and closed well, running a huge season best time of 18:26 to place third! Daphne Theiler ran with a lot of heart and placed fifth in a time of 19:05!

The Men’s 5,000 was nearly an All-Amherst race, and the Mammoths packed up together. Harrison Dow and Theo Dassin worked together in the early stages of the race and placed second and third in times of 15:10 and 15:13, respectively. For Harrison, it was his first 5k race on a track! Drew Stephens ran a strong race in third place, running well in his first track 5k ever, running a time of 15:15! Sophomores George Cahill, Aidan Gemme and Thomas Stephens placed fifth, seventh and eighth, running times of 15:29, 15:33 and 15:39, respectively. Harrison Talcott ran a strong race in his first track 5k, running a time of 15:42. Daniel Martin ran a well-executed race, running even splits to run a personal best time of 15:43 to place 10th! Sam Young placed 11th in his first track 5k, running a time of 15:58.

60 Hurdles

Anaya Thomas started her stellar day in the 60 Hurdles, winning in a personal best time of 9.35 seconds! Anaya also ran the fastest time in the prelims, running a time of 9.43 seconds. Three other Mammoths qualified for the final, where Olivia Steele placed third in a time of 9.73 seconds after running a personal best time of 9.72 seconds in the prelims. Trintje Nydam placed fifth in the Hurdles finals in a time of 9.93 seconds and ran a time of 9.79 seconds in the prelims. Bridget Cassata placed eighth in the final in a time of 10.06 seconds, improving upon the time of 10.10 seconds she ran in the prelims!

In the Men’s 60 Hurdles, Michael Gerfen placed second in both the preliminaries and the final, running a time of 9.03 seconds in the prelim and 8.96 seconds in the final! Alex Robin ran a strong preliminary race, placing seventh in a time of 9.87 seconds.

800

Emma Vatnsdal was the only Mammoth to compete in the 800 and she placed fifth in a tight race, running a time of 2:29.

Mile

In the Men’s Mile, Oliver Spiva committed to racing tough and he competed hard, placing seventh overall in a season best time of 4:29! Paolo Canigiula placed fifth in his heat, working well with a pack of runners and came away with a personal best time of 4:44! In the Women’s Mile, Nikki Chopra made her season debut, moving her way up through the field as the race progressed to place fifth in a time of 5:27! Ona Ortiz-Gudeman placed used a good kick to place seventh in a time of 5:32!

60 Meter Dash

Zoe Mulvihill and Olivia Tennant placed third and fourth in the prelims and finals, respectively, and both improved on their time from the prelim in the final! Zoe placed third in the final in a time of 8.35 seconds and placed third in the prelims in a time of 8.37 seconds. Olivia placed fourth in the final in a time of 8.40 seconds and fourth in the prelims in a time of 8.52 seconds.

Triple Jump

The Triple Jump was a successful event for the Mammoths, as Gabe Dos Santos placed second with a personal best jump of 13.38 meters (43’ 10.75”) and Kaleb Barrett placed fourth with a jump of 13.16 meters (43’ 2.25”)!

Anaya Thomas won the Triple Jump for her second win of he day, winning with a jump of 10.85 meters (35' 7.25")!

High Jump

The Mammoths swept the High Jump, as Alex Robin won the High Jump, clearing 1.85 meters (6’ 0.75”)! Gabe Dos Santos placed third, clearing the same height, however Alex Robin won the event because he had fewer misses in the competition. 

Anaya Thomas earned her third win of the day by winning the High Jump, setting a personal best by clearing 1.62 meter (5' 3.75")!

Long Jump

Michael Abbey placed fifth in the Long Jump, jumping 6.04 meters (19’ 9.75”), Michael Gerfen placed ninth with a jump of 5.75 meters (18’ 10.5”), Alec Kuzyk placed eleventh with a jump of 5.67 meters (18’ 7.25”), Santi Benbow placed 13th with a jump of 5.25 meters (17’ 2.75”) and Isaias Wooden placed 16th with a jump of 5.01 meters (16’ 5.25”).

Muffie Mazambani won the Long Jump with a jump of 5.34 meters (17' 6.25")! Leah Smith placed fourth, jumping 5.11 meters (16' 9.25") and Anaya Thomas placed fifth with a personal best jump of 4.96 meters (16' 3.25")! Morgan Rome placed tenth, jumping 4.43 meters (14' 6.5").

We are so grateful for all of the family and friends who cheered on our Mammoths this weekend as we competed at two different meets!

UP NEXT for the Mammoths is the Triangle Classic on Saturday, February 17th, which will be hosted by Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts. This is our last regular season meet of the Indoor Track and Field season and the action will kick off at 10:30 AM!
