slowlife Micah F.

My project aims to capture moments of serenity or peace while living in one of the most hectic cities, which can be far and few between if you aren’t looking for them. With my photos I aim to represent a moment that brings someone peace, and could be easily glossed over if you’re too busy living in the future. I think a lot of people can go for long periods of time without opening their eyes in a metaphorical sense. Nobody is a true exception and I think that the only thing that people can do to avoid falling out of touch with their surroundings is to stop and smell the roses every once in a while. Life moves fast, and I’ve been told it never slows down as it continues. Slowing your brain down and not only living in the moment but observing the moment is important. Observing the moment is far more valuable then wherever you might be rushing to, or focused on.

I hope that my photos can give a sense of living in the moment, as I have focused solely on still photography and capturing a moment of someone's lifetime. From my idea of a moment, I hope might even give someone a push to observe their life just a little more than they normally would. My goal for this project is for people in bustling cities to slow down even if only momentarily and take everything (regardless of significance) into appreciation.

My name is Micah and I am 16 year old with an interest in photography. I'm currently a junior attending the NYC iSchool in Manhattan. I have always felt inspired by landscape photos and still imagery of plant life. My photography interests have since branched out from those two and I have been able to produce some of my own.
