LPA Newsletter Monday 19th May 2025

Mr Kirby, Principal and Mrs Jones, Executive Principal

Dear Families,

As we come to the end of Week 4 of the summer term, Lodge Park Academy continues to be a hive of activity, energy and enthusiasm. This week, we have been particularly proud of the way our students have engaged with a range of purposeful and meaningful experiences both inside and outside the classroom.

A major focus this week has been the ‘Girls on Board’ assemblies delivered by our Vice Principal, Mrs Kerry Milligan. These sessions, offered to students in Years 7 to 10, have explored the complex world of teenage friendships, emotional wellbeing, and personal growth. The students responded with maturity and openness to the themes of empathy, support and positive peer relationships, helping to foster a more connected and respectful school community.

Alongside this, our House ‘Tug of War’ competition brought a burst of excitement and teamwork to lunchtimes. Blessed with glorious summer weather, students rallied behind their Houses in a spirited display of strength, unity and good humour. We will be announcing the results soon!

For our Year 11 and Year 13 students, this has been a critical and demanding week as they continue their journey through the summer exam season. Year 11 tackled key Core subject papers in Maths, English and Science, showing resilience, focus and determination—qualities we are immensely proud to see in our students during this intense period.

This theme of character has also been the cornerstone of this week’s House assemblies, where our Heads of House have delivered powerful messages that build on the value of inner strength, integrity, and perseverance—essential attributes for success in school and beyond.

Despite the pressures and busyness of the week, student attitudes have remained consistently excellent. We are proud of the way our students have upheld our high expectations, maintained key routines, and supported one another.

Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to what Week 5 will bring.

Warm regards,
Lodge Park Academy Leadership Team

Communication Survey

Complete for a chance to win free Nandos!

Click this link to complete the survey: https://forms.office.com/e/vkTHychKgY

In our Winter parent survey, one of the key areas identified for development was the quality of communication between home and school.

Since then, we’ve launched several new initiatives, including changes to how we manage enquiries, enhancements to our reporting systems, and a renewed focus on the quality and frequency of calls made home. We are now keen to hear your views on the impact of these changes.

To help us continue improving, we’ve created a short Communication Survey, and we would really value your feedback. Your responses will help shape the way we work and ensure we’re meeting the needs of our school community.

As a thank you, everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a prize draw to win a £50 Nando’s voucher – a treat for the whole family to enjoy!

The survey link is below, and the draw for the vouchers will take place on Friday 23rd May.

Table Talk

As we hit the exam season and the tests for KS3 and Year 10 mocks please take some time this week to discuss the benefits of revision.

We’ve all been there, rushing to finish an essay, a project, or prep for an exam, hitting “submit” or walking away the moment we’re done. But here’s a secret that top performers in every field swear by:

Revision is where real progress happens.

Whether you’re a student, a writer, or just trying to improve your knowledge, taking the time to revise transforms your learning.

Here’s how: 1. Deepens Understanding When you revise, you're not just repeating—you’re refining. Revisiting material helps you connect ideas, spot gaps in knowledge, and reinforce what you know, turning surface-level learning into long-term mastery.

2. Sharpens Critical Thinking Revision encourages reflection. You begin to ask better questions: Is this argument clear? Is this evidence strong? Can I explain this in my own words? It’s a process that naturally strengthens analysis and reasoning skills.

3. Reduces Mistakes Proofreading and re-checking calculations or concepts helps catch errors you didn’t notice the first time. It’s not about perfection—it’s about clarity and accuracy.

4. Builds Confidence Nothing beats the confidence of being well-prepared. When you’ve gone over material multiple times, you’re less likely to panic in exams or presentations. Revision gives you a solid foundation to perform at your best.

5. Improves Memory Retention The more often you return to information, especially using active recall or spaced repetition, the more likely it is to stick. Revision reinforces memory by anchoring knowledge in different contexts and formats.

Tip of the Week: Make revision a habit don't wait for the night before a test. Set a regular revision schedule, break topics into chunks, and try using flashcards, mind maps, or practice questions. Small, consistent reviews beat last-minute cramming every time.

Revision isn't just a nice-to-have—it's essential. It turns effort into excellence, confusion into clarity, and stress into self-assurance.

Please take time to talk to your children and encourage them to revise.

Why We Do What We Do
LPA 6 Week 4

At LPA we poverty proof our equipment list. Some schools will require you to bring in items such as whiteboards and whiteboard pens, highlighters and coloured pencils etc… At LPA we just list six items: 2 black pens, 1 pencil, a ruler, a rubber and a purple pen.

The importance of the ruler!

To finish off this mini-series about the LPA 6, our poverty proofed equipment list, a simple justification for the ruler. In last week’s newsletter we explained we needed the pencil and a rubber for drawing diagrams and often the diagrams will be graphs or designs that need neat straight lines and the ruler is necessary for those. In addition to this we talk to the students about making their books Revision Ready. That includes setting out the work clearly and neatly, with headings and sub-heading with those all underlined so that when the student comes to revise they clearly know which section of information relates to what.

‘The only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics.’

Wiktor spoke on national radio about his aspirations to be an international DJ and to travel the world.

House Photography Results

We are pleased to announce the winner of the House Photography competition (Signs of Spring).

Congratulations to Sophia (Kestrel) who was selected as this years champion, following a round of judging by Executive Principal Mrs Jones who had a difficult task of selecting the winning photo from over 130 entries.

Photos were judged anomalously where Sophia’s entry came out on top. Well done to everyone who took part.

House Tug of War got underway at LPA this week.

The Year 7s got the competition underway on Monday with a number of competitive head to head rounds, with Red Kite coming out victorious.

Kestrel dominated the Year 8 round on Wednesday, setting up an exciting final two rounds as the Year 9s and Year 10s go head to head on Thursday and Friday respectively.

Overall results will be shared in House assemblies next week.

The Great ‘LPA Bake Off’

Next week, On Thursday 22nd May, LPA will be hosting a bake sale in support of renovation work at St. Columba’s church in Corby. At LPA we have a great relationship with the local church, where we attend a number of events throughout the year and this is a great opportunity for the LPA community to show our support.

We are asking for students, staff and family members to take part in an LPA Bake Off House competition where bakes completed at home are donated to LPA on the morning on Thursday 22nd May.

Donations will then be sold through a bake sale in the ZONE during break and lunch times. House points will be awarded to the most creative LPA themed bakes, including themes such as the LPA values and anything else LPA related.
